  • They are basing it on the three people that she named at the party not being able to back up her story.  It's convenient for them...of course those three don't remember because they weren't assaulted and Ford didn't tell them she was assaulted.

Nor were or are they under oath.

That's all well and good,  but comparing Till to Kavanaugh is outrageous.  If one can't distinguish the difference between telling your spouse something and testifying under oath,  with the world watching,  then one must be deliberately obtuse.
The main problem with the analogy is that Till was not killed because of a movement for the rights of women. He was killed because he was a black kid and that was as good an excuse as any. The men who murdered that 14 year old held white women in just a wee bit higher regard than a black kid. This was a racist issue. Kavanaugh is a sexist issue.

Would you teach a compare/contrast class on emmet till and Kavanaugh, if you believe Unsung’s analogy?

    Shaking my head in wonder.
I teach Till as it happened and the effect it had on the Civil Rights Movement.
Would Tawana Brawley be the better example for Kavanaugh?

I forget who was questioning Kavanaugh at the time but I remember they asked about some legal phrase that basically meant "if caught lying once you are likely lying multiple times".

Kavanaugh was clearly lying about his drinking habits.  He was clearly lying about the yearbook entries.  He is only a few years older than me...I went to school with pricks like him.  Boofing referred to farts?  Devil's Triangle a drinking game?  Fucking bullshit.

If he would have been truthful from the start he would have been confirmed already.  Now he's in the performance of his life to get his lifetime seat.

Having an educated,  thoughtful one is more powerful.  Defend your position then..or leave. I welcome a good argument,  be glad to hear what you think are the similarities between Till and Kavanaugh. Please..

I can't fathom how you would begin to compare Till to Kavanaugh.  Makes zero sense on any level.

It does to me. Woman claims something and fifty years later she admits that she is lying. Like I said, no one knows the truth except the two people in the room.

Emitt till was killed in money, Mississippi because he either whistled or said something like “see you later baby” at a white woman.  She told her husband and he killed emitt.  Turns out the lady made the whole thing up.
Thanks, McG!  Yeah, right, like the Dylan song.  (My memory is not so good these days.)

Not sure what that incident has to do with Kavanaugh though.

Nothing. The analysis is at the level of “some woman once said something that wasn’t true, so you can’t believe any of them”

It s an example. Why is this so hard to comprehend? It happens. The effects of till s murder on the civil rights movement are very similar to the implications on the Supreme Court. Ms Bryant lied for fifty years, who knows what the truth is with Kavanaugh?  Like I said before, would tawana Brawley be the better example?

Somebody lied once and so there is a connection here?

I guess it works as an example for every incident in the history of the world.

And from my chair and most sane chairs, Ford isn't lying.  Kavanaugh certainly has been.

    This isn't a courtroom.

It is a (very important) job interview.

He has not been accused by only one woman.
He had proven to be lying in the hearing - she has not.

    Etc.

Get back from the planet of unsung, and enter reality.

We all understand it’s an example. It just happens to be an irrelevant one, because the circumstances are so completely different.

Take them one case at a time.  Gather the information, maybe give a lie detector test, go to court, make a determination.  Why complicate the situation?  Why make assumptions?  Get the facts.  Make a judgement.  If guilty, apply appropriate punishment and make an example of inappropriate behavior.  Men, be cool, set a good example, treat women as equals.  Women, be truthful, don't fabricate bullshit.

Damn, this is such a crazy mixed up world.  Maybe that's what make's my head spin? (Sure wish I had an answer to that vexing issue.  Sorry- I know,  it's not all about me.)
