I know it won’t happen this time around.... but after a 5 year dry spell.... and five song writers in the band....

they’ve gotta have a hundred or more songs sitting around. Put out 20-24 of them.

    I know they are perfectionists in the studio. 
    But id personally love them to go in the studio for 5 days and make a raw and rocking Crazy Horse style album. Less thinking....more rocking.

    I dont see them having hundreds of songs.
    If that were the case it wouldnt be 4 or 5+ years between albums I would imagine.

    I saw a Stone interview with Chad Smith recently where he said he writes around 40 songs for a new album and he’s lucky to get 2 of them on the album. They definitely have songs laying around that will never get recorded .

    I like where your heads at! I'm totally down for a double album! Maybe they down have hundreds of songs but I would bet they have dozens each, at least ideas and concepts.

    Totally agree they are in the same ball park as zep and stones.  They could do a double.

    If their they were ever going to release a double album, they could've/should've in 2000. For whatever reason, that ship has sailed. I think they should go the other way in put out singles and EPs as frequently as possible instead.

    Seriously why don't rock artist do Christmas albums anymore?!? I enjoy Christmas music around the holidays but my rock selection is getting real stale. Only pop artist do Christmas these days.

    I saw a Stone interview with Chad Smith recently where he said he writes around 40 songs for a new album and he’s lucky to get 2 of them on the album. They definitely have songs laying around that will never get recorded .
    I dont doubt that they've written hundreds over the years. But current ones they have worked through enough to record is different. Stone may write 1 song a week, but how many make it to Ed and he writes lyrics for? Almost none I imagine.

    These albums were released by bands in their 20s-early 30s. PJ may have been capable of that in the early days, but what band in their mid-50s has had an album on the level of those?

    Matt and Jeff just released solo albums.  Some of that stuff should be on a PJ album....

    Would you not prefer brand new never before heard material? I know I would. I was bummed out a bit when Sleeping By Myself made it on the last one. I am not saying some of their stuff is not good enough to be on it just hate for something old to take the space of something new. To be honest I kind of feel the same way with Can't Deny Me. It will be out for probably at least 1 year before the new album is released and unless it changes it will be an instant skip from me.

    im still trying to get enough listens in with matt's album to form a valid opinion but man did jeff ever knock it out of the park with his latest release(heaven/hell).  jeff's sooo ultra kool&hip lol so i'm not sure if the band could make his songs on that disc any better than they already are   ;)

    I don't think they are perfectionists in the studio.  Def Leppard would be considered to be perfectionists in the studio.  If anything, Pearl Jam's preference is to spend as little time as possible in the studio (hence the long breaks between sessions).  You can't be a perfectionist and then not put in the time.  Maybe that is why they don't like recording (not wanting to put in the time but at the same time don't like to put out something that isn't up to their personal standard).

    but here is the thing.....we waited 5 years for this one....i assume its going to be another 5 years for the next one, too.   The time between albums is increasing, not decreasing, so....yeah....this one probably has to count.

    Unfortunately I don't think new music is a priority. I think they have 1 or 2 new albums left, and will just tour on occasion like The Who- or like they do now.
    The Who was reunited for what, like 10 years before they put out that last album, and that was about 10 years ago even though they've stayed together and toured. I have a feeling PJ will sort of follow that style (minus the break-up). 
    And I'll be bummer for sure, but isnt that big of a deal. The last "great" album was Yield. They've had some good ones since, but not great. And I cant remember the last time I listened to LB.
    So the chances for a double album I think is very low.

    Load/Reload was originally intended as a double album, right?
    But as already pointed out, all these double albums were at the band's peak. That would have been 20-25 years ago for PJ. It won't happen.

    Yes....I really don't understand how they do that.  I have a feeling that Ed dominates what goes on the albums.  I could be totally wrong but how does SBM, The End, Just Breath, Future Days, etc. get on these albums when Jeff/Stone/Matt are clearly writing lots of tunes.

    I haven't given Jeff's enough listens yet....love Matt's.  Just some great riffs that would be awesome on a PJ album

    Red Hot Chili Peppers pulled off a double with “Stadium Arcadium”. 
    And I can’t get behind The Who comparison. That’s one song writer in his 70’s.
    PJ has 5 songwriters in their 50’s.
