They are getting old. How many 50+ year olds can you see running around for three hours and scream their heads off... It's a shame, but unless someone finds the fountain of youth... it's the way it is.

Cue the Bruce fans in 3,2,1.........
I love Bruce, but I think Pearl Jam songs are much more vocally demanding than Bruce’s songs
Not to mention they are listenable as well.
LOL. every time I have seen the Born In The USA video, I can't help but think he's trying to take a shit while singing.
My high school is in that video.  NJ loves Bruce =)

I thought their shows were too long before TBH, so this is kind of good news to me personally. People would start leaving before the end of their shows before, and they made it so people in the pit were on their feet (and unable to go pee if they had a good spot) for over 6 hours sometimes. But I understand that some people loved the marathon shows, so get why some might be disappointed by them shortening them up to something closer to normal. Perhaps they got really sick of paying tons of money for breaking venue curfews, which I gather they did semi-regularly in the past, so made the decision to stop with the 3+ hour shows in general so nobody would expect them to go overtime anymore. Plus... Eddie's voice. I feel quite sure that his voice box can't take the strain anymore. Even his latest studio work reveals that.
I love longer shows but I kind of agree with this.  The encores were getting a little predictable.  I would rather have a shorter show with the shows not ending similarly from night to night.

Yes, that too! I'm not sure I can even handle hearing them do RITFW again, lol. I don't understand why their encores are always so similar, and have been for so many years.

I agree with the second encore needing a bit of change but please do not mess with the first encore! Love the slow start and then some hard rockers to finish it off.

my favo show of all times was 2 hours ..i ve seen 3 hours and 15 min show from this band, and like 20 of them at 3 hours..but still nothing can top the performance of amsterdam 2 - 2012...."only" 2 hours,..buit Iill take it any day compare with 3 hourts show i saw..
now..as for amsterdam cos i was there,.and word was band to be on stage  8.pm exact i know that..,,but as always tons of people fuck around get drunk and not go to ga or to their seats,.,so they wait venue to look full..
\plus,they need to finish early cos oif cerfew plus the venue is 17k and all leave with train - metro,.,therei s no other way..so cant play till mindnight, cos then 17k will stuck there with no0 option to leave wth transportation
eddie showed his wrist about time to the rest of the band night oine and night 2 he talk to ther band to keep playing and no second encore, again cos of time

"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".

I think we're reading WAY too much into this...give them the shows in London and then we can start worrying.

Regardless, if the quality of the sets remain as high as the one last night...than I wouldn't waste my breath complaining about shorter shows!

Agreed. They are not a good enough jam band for that, despite the name, lol. Very few artists can get away with a ton of really extended jams while still holding the crowds complete attention and enthusiasm.

they smoke green hash for sure
  • I don't care about show length as long as the playing is good.  94-2005 was the golden error of epic shows and most were <2.5 hours and I don't think anyone care when they were throwing down like that.  If they play at that level I'll 2 hour shows!

Wrong!  Go to a Phish concert if you want a jam session

PJ used to have incredible jams mixed in.  Do you really want them to just rush through the songs and move on to the next?  I think we all miss those awesome extended Porch's, RVM's etc.  Hell I used to really look forward to the multiple daughter tags you get in a show and now you're lucky if you get more than one verse of ABITW...

I would disagree.  Bruce runs circles around any performer whether they are 20 or 50.

I'm fine with shorter shows though.

yeah it has to be tough on the pipes...my friend posted a video of Glorified G from the other night and the "always, keep it, loaded" vocal was pretty strained.  I know Ed has said on stage that a song like Blood pretty much wipes out your vocals for the night.

but Grohl has really been hard on his voice...he screams all the time.  No way that can last

I saw Foo Fighters in Atlanta and have no clue how he can scream on command like that.  Pretty cool.

  • I wouldn't care if my show wasn't 3 hours. It's the content that matters. a band that is playing what and how long they want to play is a better band to see.

although if I got >20 songs I'd fucking torch the place.
Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer

I could honestly do without Porch and RVM for a while.  They've become so predictable.  One ends the 1st set, the other ends the 2nd.  Every. Show.  When they start jamming in either song is when I go take a piss & grab another beer, or just sit down for a while.  I do miss the more creative Daughter tags of yore though.

I still enjoy RVM but wouldn’t be opposed to Insignificance as a replacement...porch is the bathroom break for me. Even have time to hit the concessions...

Porch also beer break for me.

Average age of band around 53 years old? And we still got them touring and playing 2.5 hour sets? I'd say we're all pretty blessed.
