Why would Vocabulary.com dub a nonsense word over/under an actual word?

That didn't work for me, even after I began being able to hear both at the same time. After that, my brain decided it would only hear Yanni, and I can't hear Lauren anymore even when I try and already know what it sounds like.

So basically what they did was turn up the "negative" part to make it louder, which makes it sound like two distinct words dubbed over each other. When I play the vocab.com audio clip, it's clearly "laurel" as fuck, and the "negative" yanny part is barely intelligible.
