    I heard this clip prior to knowing anything about it.  Heard Yanny, or something similar.  I then heard what the debate was, got confused and it was played again.  Since then all I heard is "Laurel".

    From afar when my wife played the clip on her tablet, I heard Yanny.

    When I actually listened to it with my full attention, I hear Laurel.

    I hear both at the same time. On the radio this morning I only heard Laurel though but this listen I hear them both.

    Check yourself, fool! The recording is of an opera singer with perfect diction saying the word "laurel" for vocabulary.com (https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/laurel).

    There is nothing wrong with anyone who hears an actual word being spoken by an absolute ace of articulation.

    On the other hand, someone who hears a nonsense sound and then claims aural superiority is perhaps something of a douchenozzle.

    It's both.

    Yanny is spoken at a higher tone, and Laurel is spoken with a lower tone. They're dubbed over each other.
