    Bad example. LOVED it the moment I heard and No Code is a GREAT album.
    No Code is a great album, but Who You Are didn't seem like a great first single to a great album. The song is ok, at best.

    I wasn't around then...Based on the context I'm guessing bad.  I might have to check out some of those old threads, but I actually loved the song.
    Can't Deny Me on the other hand....I'll reserve final judgement until I give it a few more listens but so far it's doing nothing for me compared to every lead single since becoming a fan back in the Riot Act days.

    Whilst i'm still processing the single and not sure on how much I like it, I haven't been this excited about something new in ages. I love the way they have dropped this on us, firstly a new song as an xmas single and then a couple of days later we find out an album is coming!!! Brilliantly done on how they kept it quiet up to this point......lets see if the South American shows bring any more new tunes?? I'm pretty sure somewhere I read that we should expect a big year for PJ in 2018 and here we go. I for one cannot wait!

    I'm with you on that regard, but I guess I'm not sure what that even means anymore with Pearl Jam. LB was too light for me so I am hopeful they come out a bit stronger on this new one and this is aimed that way, but so was MYM. The more I've listened to Can't Deny Me, the more I like it and appreciate it for what it is. It's a bit poppy and rock mixed together.

    I've found that I've actually been more impressed with albums they didn't lead with the hardest song on the album as the single (No Code, Binaural and Riot Act) and I really worried about those albums at first. Whatever this album ends up being, I will like it, but where it ends up on the PJ catalog spectrum is yet to be determined. It has to be above LB though. I really like BS when I listen to it now. It's always hardest to appreciate the music for what it is at the time it comes out, but PJ albums have tended to grow on me over time.
    It's a hopeless situation...

    Yes! Thank you! I see so much negative & I'm like WTF?! New PJ music people! I am so freakin excited to be going to Wrigley in August & now a new album that I will get to hear LIVE!! Hallelujah!!

    Apologists? Your post came off as whiny, not ciritical. As a perk to being a 10c member you received an early release rough mix of the lead single off the new album and thought that you deserved a better version and something not labeled as a 2017 annual single. Entitled much?

    How ridiculous. I didn’t criticize the song at all. It’s not a rough mix we got, just a crappy sounding low bit rate mp3 of a song the general public got a mere 3 days later. I stand by my comment that it’s super lame if this is in fact the 2017 single. For more than 20 years we have gotten a unique single that is not an album track. Entitlement? We pay for this single. Looking forward to
    more new music as always.

    Did MYM, The Fixer, or Life Wasted really set the tone for those albums? Not really imo.
