Why did they boo Eddie?

I have no problem respecting and appreciating the talent of Pearl Jam even though I disagree with them on many topics (and their first 304 albums weren't all that political anyway).
But for the majority here who side with the band, if you tell me that you would sit quietly while someone spoke about abortion and gun rights, then I will say I just don't believe you. There is no doubt in my mind if you attended a festival because PJ headlined it, and the group before them took the stage and spoke about those things, you'd boo until you passed out.
And the argument of "well you knew what to expect so just shut up" I don't get. For those who have that stance, can we agree to just close the Trump thread then? We knew what to expect, it has been over a year, so lets stop complaining about it then. Yeah, I didn't think so. Seems to me a lot like to point fingers when we all know very well if the shoe was on the other foot then there would be 100 excuses why it was okay.
Second, surely you can see that there's a world of difference between choosing to go to a concert or other performance, and being "governed" (I'll use that term loosely) by a president that you didn't vote for and whose policies you disagree with and believe are harmful for the country? The shoe isn't on the other foot; the shoe isn't even on the same planet.
And my first comment was a generalization. Of course not everybody would boo, but I large portion would.
And about the booing? You explicitly said “you’d boo until you pass out”, and you’re wrong. Don’t apply your standards to me.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0 -

Even if I chose to go to a concert or not, I still don't see how knowing what to expect should impact my views or actions. Either it is okay to boo or not, it doesn't matter what I should expect. I was specifically addressing the argument of "you know what yo expect from this band so just accept it." So in that sense, it isn;t okay to boo a band that has open and well known beliefs, but would be okay to boo a band that speaks out for the first time (because how would you expect that)? I just don't agree with that.0 -

Metallica and Pearl Jam are probably two of my favorite bands all time. At least the one's I grew up on. One got me in to metal and out of country and the other made me a life long rock fan. I don't care what Hetfield or Eddie believe in politically, even if Eddie tends to wear his views on his sleeve more often than not. Could a bands views and actions make me dislike them? Yeah, I suppose it could, but I can only think of Ted Nugent as an example because he has gone to such an extreme and doesn't present himself as even a remotely decent person half the time. I really liked Kid Rock at one point too, but then I turned 30. It had nothing to do with his views. I just grew out of the cock rock and wasn't a fan of his country stuff. If Bawitdaba came on the radio today, I may listen if I can't find anything else better, but I also may decide to sing along and jam out because I still know every word to it.
Either way, I get why some people may get turned off by that type of stuff, but for the most part I don't notice a bands true views unless I read an article or the lead singer rants at the concert. Usually the lyrics don't make it clear on that type of thing. I dislike music more based on the gratuitous fascination with sex or women than anything else. That is music I can't get in to and is cringe worthy.
It's a hopeless situation...0 -

Strangely though, some people really like to hear him rant about politics. I was at show a few years ago and he was talking about whatever and he said "You know me...I can go on forever" and I shouted out "TRUST ME, WE FUCKING KNOW!" and this girl in front of me got really mad.Let the artist(s) be whoever he/they feel like they want to be. People going for a jukebox to be played, and not to watch a creative expression... hmm... yeah...
I went to see Roger Waters this past summer and certainty there were political statements all throughout the show. But not one of those statements was him just standing there talking. It was song lyrics and images on the video screen. That's very different than some dude, half-drunk on wine, rambling on.And, I'll rather take some drunk political views than "I'm gonna show how hip I am to the kids" dirty dad jokes. Haha."Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
To resolve this issue, everyone at work right now enter "Pete Townshend Child Pornography" into the google search right now and tell us what info you learn on the case.0

I'll say it again- booing at a concert is weak. It's immature and rude behavior. Anyone who goes to a Pearl Jam show (or Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Rage Against the Machine or any other band with known political/social opinions expressed through their music) surely will expect to hear some songs that express opinions they may agree or disagree with. If those artists opinions are that offensive to you, stay home. That's why I don't go to Ted Nugent shows. I'm not going to go to one of his shows and boo. Why would I do that?
Besides, Pearl Jam shows so frequently include social commentary that to go and then get pissed off about it is really, really stupid if you think about it. If you really don't like that aspect of this particular band, why waste your time? There are plenty of other bands who don't mix social commentary in their music or performances. Go see them instead.

But the real question is, what does this have to do with booing Vedder?

it was a joke. I don't want to enter those words into a search engine on my work computer. Apparently I'm okay typing them into a forum. But then again I know what they monitor and search results are one of them, forum responses I'm pretty sure they don't.0

So Mace, what has this to do with booing Vedder? What the punch line?

There are a lot of people who would cheer loudly no matter what Eddie says.If Eddie were to get on stage and in between songs say hey, the Earth is flat water flows uphill and the moon is made of cheese. What would the crowd reaction be? I bet over half the place would erupt with loud cheer.0

But seriously, RYME, most people applaud what Vedder says because they agree with him. I don't go along with the idea that the average Pearl Jam fan agrees with what Eddie Vedder says because he is Eddie Vedder. I think most people agree with what he says because it reflects their own feelings. Most Pearl Jam fans really did not like Bush. Most Pearl Jam fans really do not like endless war. Most Pearl Jam fans really do want to end pollution and the destruction of the planet. Etc.
Pearl Jam fans are generally more politically, socially and environmentally concerned than fans of some other bands I won't name (there's no need to, that is not the point). I think you make too great a sweeping generalization inferring PJ fans are a bunch of sheep. I don't even know why you would do that.
