  • It's my humble opinion that there is no finer piece of musical work than 'The Wall'. Epic beyond belief. Nobody will ever convince me otherwise.

Back in the very early 80s the movie came out and man... it blew people's minds. It's still decent, but back in the day, people couldn't believe the movie complement to the album. * Side note: Heavy Metal was also a great rock movie around the same time with voices of John Candy and a great selection of excellent music (Blue Oyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Sammy Hagar, etc.).

The Wall... an unbelievable concept masterpiece crafted from one of the elite Kings of Rock.

Unfortunately. Roger couldn't hold it together and his bitter, pessimistic, dark and tortured soul made working relations completely unworkable (a low point marked when he even spat on a fan). The Final Cut was painstakingly produced, released, and that was it. A band finished at the height of its career.

Talking about favorite songs...it's impossible to do...but Echoes is consistently in my top 5 favorite PF songs. When I saw David Gilmour a few years ago he played it in its entirety (of course Rick was touring with him) and it was the most incredible experience I've ever had at a live show. There were people in the aisles just screaming 'thank you' over and over again...what a cool memory!

    That's fantastic. Echoes is amazing.

Pink Floyd is second to none in my opinion. I love Zeppelin insanely, but I'm pretty much obsessed with the Floyd. They have always maintained their signature sound yet I think they're incredibly diverse. Part of my love for them also comes from the fact that I love every single member's solo albums as well. Syd's were simple yet brilliant, Roger's have been epic, David's are beautiful, Nick's got some weird stuff going on, and Rick Wright was so incredibly talented..what a loss.

To me, Pink Floyd is the whole fracken package. The closest I'll ever get to seeing them live are the solo shows I've been to (David's and Roger's), and those shows are all listed in my top 10 of all time hands-down.

About time we had an 'official' PF thread!!

My thoughts exacly. Definatly second to none. Pink Floyd means more to me than anything else in this world, they have transcended time and place with they masterpieces and I am so glad they exist.
I believe the world wouldn't be the same without them, at least mine wouldn't.

I love Pink Floyd with all my heart.

Never saw them live though. Breaks my heart.

those gilmour chicago shows were great. i was glad he kind of mined the catalog a bit and played some things us die hards would appreciate. who'd have ever thought we'd get to hear wot's uh the deal in 2006? no one. getting wearing the inside out was another highlight for me. and echoes... i never thought i'd get to see a performance of it. of all the shows i've seen, if i had to choose one song performance to relive it would be echoes.

Damn I still get the chills thinking about that show!!! He really did pull out some things I didn't think we'd see. Seeing Echoes was definitely the main highlight, but Dominoes was up there on my list too...gah wish there was a DVD or something to relive it!!

waters is such an incredible intellect
had no idea syd lived to be 60 :o
there was a picture of him at the studio for said album
    crazy sad

syd, shine on you crazy diamond

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.

    Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
    Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the cross fire of childhood and stardom,
    Blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger,
You legend, you martyr, and shine!

You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
    Shine on you crazy diamond.
Treatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
    Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
    Rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter,
You piper, you prisoner, and shine!

Nobody knows where you are, how near or how far.
    Shine on you crazy diamond.
Pile on many more layers and i'll be joining you there.
    Shine on you crazy diamond.
And we'll bask in the shadow of yesterday's triumph,
And sail on the steel breeze.
Come on you boy child, you winner and loser,
Come on you miner for truth and delusion, and shine!

I watched it when it was on cable, but I've yet to sit down and watch the dvd. Loved it though. Much better than the Classic Album series, DSOTM and otherwise. I wish every great album had something like this. I need to find a couple hours and watch this thing.

    Wow.

I bet that cost you something.

The lyrics to Time are awesome (as are so many other lyrics to so many other Floyd songs).

Start with either Dark Side of the Moon or Wish You Were Here. Do NOT start with either Piper At The Gates of Dawn, Animals or The Wall - all absolutely classic albums, but should be explored later.
