I always interpreted this line to refer to multiple things, as Eddie often does with his lyrics.
Namely, C3 could be a jukebox choice or it could be referring to C3 as middle C, as in the reference point on a Piano. Also, since C major is a common key signature and one of the easier keys to play in, it's universal in all genres of music and often a starting point in composition. In this ambiguous but versatile way, C3 could refer to any song that exerts influence or protest, or the origin and process of such.
I think we'll just have to wait for Ed to reveal this one. Whatever song it is though it definately inspired Ed to write some of his finest lyrics. I don't know if this song is underrated or not but it doesn't get mentioned very much. I love how the song flows and it could easily be extended into an end of set jam song like Porch or RVM if they played about with it at the solo which strangely doesn't get played much anymore? :?

yeah, for a little while they were doing a nice space jam in that mid section breakdown. was good stuff. song seems to have been forgotten. used to be a staple, so kinda weird.

Honestly, everyone is way over analyzing this - its simply just a line saying play a song and let it protest. The c3 reference is illustrating the environment - a pub/whatever place has a jukebox in it
The guy next to me in Manchester sung it as 'this place seats 3, let the songs protest' :fp:

I would love to hear this song one day. Sounds great live.
I've always seen it as a (great) staple. But maybe it has fallen off. My dream is for them to play it as the last song in the main set, stop it at the break in the song. Then come back after the encore and just start it up again. Haha.

a song on a jukebox. not sure which one, though

It would of course depend on the jukebox. Ed has also changed this to B3 and possibly other letter/number combos.
A selection on an old jukebox. Ever use a vending machine?
Or are you asking what song it is? Because we have no way of knowing that.

Boom plays a B3 organ.
I'm sure it changes all the time... Whatever your protest song is, play it.
