How did we end up here? Because Democrats consistently lose the messaging war on progressive policies. This writer is delusional if she thinks a single payer system, replacing employer delivered health care, would be overwhelmingly popular in practice. Raising taxes is NEVER a political winner. No one thinks they are rich, so yeah, tax the rich. Until you see the numbers. There's a saying "Don't tax you, don't tax me, tax that guy behind the tree". So arguing for an increase in the payroll taxes past $118 or increasing taxes above 250 will not win an election.
Last, she is making the argument that repealing SS is a political loser. Well duh. Bush lost that argument and Trump NEVER raised it for one second. So her argument is completely moot.

If the economy is 'roaring', why are so many Americans still struggling?
All over America workers are asking themselves why, if the economy is
“booming”, are they forced to work longer hours for lower wages. Why,
if the economy is “roaring”, are they not able to afford childcare, send
their kids to college or put aside enough money for a decent
retirement.
The American people also want to know why, as taxpayers, they have to
subsidize and provide corporate welfare to the wealthiest and most
profitable corporations in the country. How does it happen that there
are major corporations in America where CEOs receive extravagant
compensation packages, who pay their workers wages so low that many of
them are forced to rely on food stamps, Medicaid and public housing –
subsidized by taxpayers – to survive?
This wouldn't derail any campaign unless 1) it was the candidate who did the harassing or 2) the candidate blew off the problem as though it didn't matter. Neither apply to Sanders.
