    Exactly, T!  That way of thinking is what is sometimes referred to as anthropocentric thinking.  It's a shame we don't more often use biocentric thinking which would be better for us as a species and better for the planet.  Out anthropocentric thinking (and way of living) may prove to be self-eliminating at some point.

    I see animals as being in the moment in the purest sense. Our human ability to reflect, forecast, and be conscience of self also can drive us nuts. Our culture exacerbates this. We plan, have regrets, stress about things out of our control, and think we can do multiple things at the same time. My dogs give me the gift of letting me know there is no better time than what is right now.

    I'm TERRIBLE when it comes to fretting over things that haven't even happened yet.  Stress is my middle name.  I think that's why I like the Lawrence Anthony quote so much and also why I totally get what you mean about how an animal like your dog can help keep the focus on the moment. I need those reminders as much or more than anyone!

    My cat does that too.  I was having this bad dream about my cat Annie this morning and next thing I know she has jumped up on the bed and meowed (which is unusual for her) as if to say, "Hey, that's not what's happening, this is.  Let's purr and be in the here and now!"

    I find the US arming and refuelling of Saudi army jets to facilitate the bombing of Yemen to be absolutely despicable. I also see no way to debate that ugliness, as it's utterly incomprehensible and without a defendable position - so why would I waste my time posting about it when I'm powerless to facilitate change or even learn more about it?

    Clearly you want to be the board's shining beacon who educates the masses - and no one is stopping you - but to assume that because we're not here up in arms and preaching about how sad and corrupt things are, that we just don't care - is a really terrible and likely false assumption on your part. 

    Also, your tongue-in-cheek sarcastic quips on serious topics about nefarious actions are just distasteful. I'm no PC Nazi, but I'm at least self-aware enough to recognize that showing smugness in taking adversarial positions to those you're trying to convince is one of the least effective way to sway opinion.
