Italy Question (Macerata)

Hello,

I'm traveling to Italy in August and though I have been there many times, I have not been to the eastern side. I'm flying to Rome, then taking the train to Macerata for a concert, and then I have a few free days. I could always go back to Rome, a city I love. I'd prefer to go to Cinque Terre (my fav place on the planet) but it's too far out of the way for this trip. Is there anything near Macerata or between Macerata and Rome that is worth seeing/spending a few days? I'm not a big beach guy, but love nature and small, real towns, as well as great food (vegetarian).

I appreciate any recommendations.

Sorry, no recommendations. Just had to say I looked up images of the city and wow! Beautiful. Looks like they have quite the opera venue as well.

Enjoy your trip! Even if no one here knows the city, you'll still have a blast in that environment and all you discover.

I know, that venue looks insane. The thought of Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood gracing it with their art was too much to resist.

If nothing else, I will head back to Rome and spend a few days just "living" there. Been lucky to visit there many times so no touristy stuff.

Nutella gelato!!!!..sorry but have no info for the area..i've been just in Ancona for few hours..it was nice..not great, but nice..
