For those interested... I came across an article listing the top money makers last year. They break it down to show which revenue streams are most lucrative for the artists. Touring is definitely where it's at. Pretty interesting to see how much and how little is earned from each area.

Wow. I would have guessed a lot more came from merch sales. Well let's get a tour going and make them some $$$$!  :)

That "sales" number has to be off.
2016 they did 25 shows.  They sell 1000 posters at each show(I know they sold more) so 25 x 1000= 25000 posters.
    Each poster costs $35, so $35 x 25000= $875,000.00  That's just in posters.
The math seams way off on this.  You can do the same thing with ticket sales and it will end up way more.

It has to be music sales. Like physical copies.

If that's the case then their touring numbers are way off too.

    Yeah, $8.3MM / 351,000 tickets = $23/ticket

Maybe these are profit, not revenue, numbers?

I dont buy those numbers for a second. Id be willing to bet they cleared at least $1m per night just from the baseball stadium shows.
And no way does that include merch.  40,000 fans @ $100 a ticket = $4m EACH NIGHT.
They make a LOT more than this article suggests.
  • They have to pay people though. Is this the net or the gross?
looking to hear of the earth

I think these are INCOME numbers, not REVEUNE numbers.  Sales is actual music sales, and with no album release that numbers makes sense to me.  In an album release year that number would jump, but still not that much in today's climate.   I'd assume the touring numbers is all income from touring including ticket sales, merch, etc....and again this is income not revenue.  I read an article a while back of the break down on tickets, but the artists don't get nearly the cut you might think from each ticket, and thankfully PJ has kept ticket prices somewhat fair in recent years compared to some other big touring acts (U2, Metallica, etc)

25 shows and merch = clearing 6m in income?
No way, not unless they give half of their revenue to charitable foundations or everybody and their mother is on the payroll (both of which are possible I guess).

I think it may only be US earnings. These numbers are their take home income, after deductions for travel/expense/salary etc
