I think it's more like a Jack Irons unsure of when to start building up into the verse kind of intro haha. I also think Corduroy was better back then was it wasn't too rushed.mcgruff10 said:
yeah that is definitely a sweet performance. I think they have an extended intro of corduroy too.SmallestOceans said:The 2/21/95 version from Osaka, Japan has a nice extended intro that creates some extra suspense and tension. Crowd erupts when Eddie finally comes in.

For me, MSG 1 '16. I did not expect to hear it that night, and it totally hit me hard. Part of it had to do with what the song meant to me through my high school and college relationships/breakups and then hearing it for the first time live with my then fiance/now wife. Kind of like a full circle feeling.Philly 10/21/13 - MSG 5/1/16 - Fenway 8/5/16 - TOTD 11/4/160

This exactly! Culmination of so much for me personally (and so many others in the room), Ed's words ... to be present in that moment and experience the humanity of those around while understanding everyone has shit..it was something.iamloco724 said:Definitely Philly Ten performance, it was just such a moment pure emotion. Being there was great, one of the many highlights for me.
got a car...got some gas...oh let's get out of here-get out of here fast...
I hope you get this message but your not home...I will be there in just a minute or so...
I want to go but I want to go with you.

The first time I heard it live was really special, chills.
I got it in 4 out of 9 shows, twice as an opener. Lucky I guess.0 -

Manchester 1 2012 was my first time seeing it live and what a great version it is! Best concert moment of my life!'F*** the pessimists. F*** 'em.' Eddie Vedder0

That is indeed a good version. I forgot to add it to my own list I made earlier. I listen to it quite often as I am a huge fan of the European 2012 tour.tino_11 said:Manchester 1 2012 was my first time seeing it live and what a great version it is! Best concert moment of my life!

St. Paul 2014. My dad had died 2 weeks prior to the show. He took his own life. I went to the show with my wife and my brother. I had really hoped that they would play Release, as I listened to the song many times in the two weeks after his death. Was not active on the forum at the time, so I did not put out a request thread or anything like that. When they played Release as the second song, I couldn't help but cry a little. What's more, it sounded like Eddie said Ron on the last verse, which was the name my dad went by, and I started crying like a baby. After getting the bootleg and listening over and over again, my wife, my brother and I were convinced, but some of our friends were skeptical. However, there is a YouTube video, taken from in front of Eddie, and we all agree that it does not look like he says mom or John...it looks like Ron! Anyway, even if he did not say Ron as a tribute to someone, that performance was so helpful for me at the time. When I heard it again at wrigley 1, I couldn't help but get a bit emotional all over again. Always loved the song, but it means more to me now.0

Wrigley 2013. I think this may have been the most Eddie ever felt the song. That's what it looked and felt like to me, anyway. It felt like a really special personal moment for him, and you can hear that when you listen to it.Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Agreed. Hopefully we get to hear a non-audience version someday.1st - Randalls Island 1 '96

Favorite one in person was Boston 2010, great performance and really lit the crowd up.
But my favorite Release clip has got to be the Off Ramp version from the 1st show. The first verse is altered a bit, but the song is there . But what gets me is the Hadean guttural vocal heat Ed generates out of the third verse (3:16, I wait up in the dark...) that I don't think has been matched (or at least surpassed) since.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdmlttA4QtI

Only Pearl Jam can make you listen to a song that you have heard a thousand times just one more time.Tremorman said:

It's crazy how random this stuff is....I've heard it 7 times out of 21 shows. I sure like that ratio! One PJ song that I will never get sick of.mcgruff10 said:I just went to pjstattrakcer and found out i've only seen release 7 out of 57 times. I didn't realize how rare it is.

Was this 4/11/92? (Someone's gonna call me out on this...). This was just after Kurt had passed. It was the opener. This was a Reserved seating show; we calmly put an end to that.
I feel bad for the folks saying this is elusive as Boston seems to get it all the time. The Garden, Mansfield, Fenway. Not that I dislike it PJ!!
4/8/94 - Fairfax, VA. 1,000+ candles on the stage to provide the lighting. Rough start to the show. It was my first PJ show, and I was almost disappointed. The crowd got behind them, they could feel the energy, and it ended up being a great show.4/8/94 - Fairfax, VA, 9/24/96 - Columbia, MD, 10/27/13 - Baltimore, 4/29/16 - Philly II, 11/4/16 - TOTD Philly I, 4/7/17 - RRHOF, 8/18,20/18 - Chicago, 9/2/18 - Boston; EV Solo - 9/23/17 - Louisville, 9/24/17 - Franklin, TN, 9/28/19 - OHANA0 -
My favorite is Tokyo, Japan 3/3/03..opener of course. There is also a great version of Don't be shy on the CD as well.0
