When I grew up my parents tried to keep me from watching R movies and listening to rap and metal. When I heard bad words they informed me (repeatedly) that certain language in certain situations is highly inappropriate and punished me when I crossed the line.
I'm not sure when exactly parents became so lazy but that is a far bigger source of societal decline than Jay-Z saying the word "fuck."0 -
Here's an article about how Walmart's bullying drives US companies out of business and sends jobs and dollars overseas. US companies simply cannot provide the prices that Walmart demands.
So for every community that's happy to get a new Walmart store with some jobs and a few charitable donations to their local groups, there other communities all over the country laying off workers and sending their jobs overseas. There's good examples in the article.

So despite the evils of Walmart, what does the commercial actually do?
Is it an ad for the Into the Wild CD being sold there or is it one of the tracks being used to simply promote the store?
If it's the first, who gives a rat's ass if Walmart is selling it and promoting it? Don't they have the right to? I mean, Ed did make and produce it through a record label that sells CDs to Walmart...
You can get all of PJ's albums there...how is this any different?0 -

It is to promote the store, no mention of the movie or CD. It shows various clips of families traveling, smiling happy people and then they all eventually go to Wal-Mart.
By the way people, my original point wasn't to debate Wal-Mart, I was simply asking if anyone else saw it & what they thought about hearing 1 of Ed's new songs promoting something he has been vocullay opposed to in the past, thats all folks. Not trying to start a national debate, thats another post. Thank you.0 -

It's not Ed. I've heard it. It's actually the band the White Buffalo. You can read about it here.

I don't know. But I saw the commercial the other day. My sister asked me if that was Ed singing & I told her she was nuts; that it sounded nothing like him. Apparently she wasn't alone cuz there's the threads in the Pit & if you do a simple google search you'll see other people have mistaken them for Ed too. But there's always someone to clear Ed's name & explain that it is in fact the White Buffalo. You can hear the same song on the White Buffalo official site.0 -
I assume this is the commercial in question. I don't get how people think this could possibly be Ed but whatever.

I swear, last night we were watching The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and a Wal Mart commercial comes on. I wasn't paying attention, but my husband said, you know, that was Ed singing. So, I hit rewind and I swear to god, it was him. Very surprised, and the commericial had nothing to do with Into the Wild. It was about a family on a road trip and how much money Wal Mart saves a family every year, and where are you going to go!!!!0

I'm by no means a fan of rap or hip hop, but wouldn't a better solution be for us to do a better job of educating our kids?
I've heard plenty of this kind of music and I simply take it for what it is--it doesn't turn me into a wannabe gangster.

I've had friends who've worked for Walmart. All the crap you hear about them is true. Yes, they donate to charities, but they also destroy small businesses, treat their employees like crap, and sell really crappy products. Almost every electronic device or piece of clothing I bought from there didn't last a month.
My friend has worked there for 4 years. They make her work 12 hour shifts with few breaks and no overtime, and she doesn't get paid that much to begin with. Plus their health insurance is only offered to full time employees in most cases, and most of their employees are part time, yet end up working full time hours.
Walmart sucks.Chicago 2000 : Chicago 2003 : Chicago 2006 : Summerfest 2006 : Lollapalooza 2007 : Chicago 2009 : Noblesville (Indy) 2010 : PJ20 (East Troy) 2011 : Wrigley Field 2013 : Milwaukee (Yield) 2014 : Wrigley Field 20160 -
PGHmatt wrote:Not sure if this has been posted yet but has anyone seen the new Wal-mart commercial playing Ed from Into The World. I was speechless! He must not own the rights to the soundtrack? Not sure he would agree for his song to be used for the catalyst of our economical decline that is Wal-Mart?0

Oh, Jimmy wrote:3. They don't censor anybody, its up to the artist. I have bought virtually every PJ album from there, several boots included, and not even a "fuck" has been touched.
They have a right to sell or not sell what they want. I think its pretty sweet that they have censored versions. It's mostly rap and most of that shit needs censored anyway.
nothing needs to be censored, EVER. the reason you get things uncensored there is that walmart was SUED for doing it. they were cutting scenes from movies (they cut what's her name's nipple from titanic, among others) and editing song lyrics at will and selling it as the same product with no notification and no permission from the artist or director. they were ordered to stop. it is the artist's product. nobody should be able to take it and sell a censored version without the artist's permission. that is the basis of many a lawsuit. it's why sampling used to be so hard to do in the early days of hip hop. if you're offended, don't fucking buy it. if you don't want your kid listening to it, be a fucking parent. and if you're goign to censor another person's work, you better fucking cover your ass legally... as walmart learned.0 -
wal mart is good for consumers
their buying power keeps prices low
and you can get all you need in one stop
but
their corporate model is not good for society-a lot of cost cutting trends start with wal mart and trickle to the rest of the country-thats the truth.0 -
OK, what about Ed singing the song for the Walmart commercial, has anyone heard/seen it?0
