Just a naive aussie inquiring. Cheers
I think the biggest negative with WalMart is that everything they sell is so frickin cheap because 99.5 percent of the store is stocked with Chinese made products.....that and they bully communities and can destroy or drastically alter the dynamics of local economies..
Actually, there are hundreds of negative things associated with WalMart, but to me it is a symptom of an ill society/culture more than any direct cause. (Our illness is ignorance and fundamental Christianity. Believe it or not, but there is a difference between the two, so I had to list both of them..... )
The worst story I heard about WalMart was a huge expose on how they would fight like crazy to get into small communities, completely destroying the local economy and forcing independent businesses to close as they couldnt compete with the massive buying power Walmart,....... BUT the worst part of this was that the all of the employees they would end up hiring as part time labour were given only enough hours to 'not be' eligible for company health care, SO they would literally hand out paperwork in the hiring process that told new hires how to sign up for government programs to subsidize the care they needed.....the argument is that they raise enough taxes for states and local cities that the local and state entities should gratefully accept the paying for these services and allow Walmart to monitor hours to keep their employees out of the company's responsibility zone, so to speak....just big huge influence and a corporate welfare dirtskank of the biggest proportions.
Hey, I am only 7 years old, so I dont really know too much about it.Formally known as Tackalac before being formally known as Vedderwt,,,,....release my old name and posts....

walmart is a genius at taking advantage of people. they advertise some really low prices for some items to lure you into the store and portray the image that they are giving deals on everything. i've done this for a school project actually...go into walmart and document prices of different items that you know can be found in other stores, then go to the other stores and compare prices. you will be surprised by the amount of goods that are more expensive at walmart...
oh and walmart does alot for the poor people? hell, they should fully support the poor people since they're responsible for us being poor in the first place with their bully tactics and outsourcing of jobs.0 -

They are known for destroying downtown areas of smaller towns and treating their employees poorly (no health care, cutting hours so they dont have to provide it, etc.). Typical greedy behavior (I'm not opposed to Capitalism but choosing not to shop there is where smart people can change their ways). They develop enormous buildings on wetlands. They censor certain artists. The list goes on.
But they sell stuff for so cheap that even the people that protest their practices can be found sneaking in and out with their toilet paper and cat food.My Pearl Jam concert footage:http://youtube.com/profile_videos?user=twojawas&search_query=pearl+jam&search=Search

wal mart allows their pharmacists to DECEDE, based on their religious beliefs, whether they will fill a woman's perscription (from a DOCTOR) for birth control pills.
its not a problem where i live - there are many pharmacies around that dont have such archaic policies.
however, to a woman who lives in rural america, where the only pharmacy is wal mart....well, i guess she is screwed in more ways then one.
i wonder how those pharmacists feel about filling viagra perscriptions?picture an empty cup in the middle of the sea0 -

To be fair this exact same thing can be said of any grocery store, Target, Best Buy, etc, etc, etc.
If I read this without Wal-Mart in there and they asked who it was said about I could give about 100 different stores that it could be. They always have really good sales and the rest is so-so... but you go in for the sale items and pick up a few of the other things along the way which is what they want.0 -

I heard a story on TV where Wal-Mart sued one of their employees to recoop the money they had to pay in medical cost when she was in a car accident. This just after her son was killed in Iraq and her husband broke his back and couldn't work anymore.
The amount they sued her for was upwards of $400,000.00.
That is the main reason I won't shop there.6/14/08 - Bonnaroo
