I still cant believe Macca didnt win!!!! I guess he wouldnt turn up for the award but come on to fuck!!! David Attenborough!!!! :(

it was for Icon... and Macca is an icon of international stature!

i bet if you ask the population of Great Britain who they have heard of and Macca would top that poll... ergo he is the greatest icon

He would have turned up for the award. I saw the program and he was interviewed and was quite enthusiastic, and somewhat honoured to have been nominated.
I mean, what the fuck is David Attenborough iconic of?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Attenborough

'Sir David Frederick Attenborough, OM, CH, CVO, CBE, FRS (born on 8 May 1926 in London, England) is one of the world's best known broadcasters and naturalists. Widely considered one of the pioneers of the nature documentary, he has written and presented eight major series (with a ninth in production) surveying nearly every aspect of life on Earth. He is also a former senior manager at the BBC, having served as controller of BBC2 and director of programming for BBC Television in the 1960s and 1970s.

He is the younger brother of director and actor Richard Attenborough.'

i firmly believe if a worldwide poll was taken right now and asked who is the worlds GREATEST LIVING ICON the result would be McCartney.... or Boom, one or the other!

remember that all kids might vote for Britney or something shit, but we are an ageing population and so more old folks would vote for Macca
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

De Niro beats McCartney anyday... even Pacino... several actors or sports people. Mohammed Ali. When Macca dies, everyone will remember Lennon! There are several bigger icons than that ageing whinger.

De Niro never created a cultural revolution
    or Pacino

and Ali punched folks heads for a living... not iconic in my book... thats like celebrating Hitler for killing folk as he was pretty fucking good at it

McCartney is a global icon... whether you think so or not doesnt come into it.. its foolish to try and suggest otherwise

Madonna and Michael Jackson probably are as well... but they never had the impact of The Beatles... no-one did!

But it's also what Ali did for black people that counts. His stance on Vietnam aswell and what he did for the civil rights movement.

    Macca is a wanker.
Lennon was always in a different, and superior, league.

I vote for macca...I love the stuff he did with wings....classic and then his solo stuff really didn't get the recognition it deserved...and then he was sooooo unlucky in love and I also love the way that when he's onstage he talks in an american accent like ozzy....man he's so cool :p
