I'm honestly not sure how one can complain about the set. They can't all be the best, and last night was exceedingly more than adequate. Great energy from the band, great energy from the crowd. To do what they do day in, day out, it's awesome to see that they love doing it and they don't treat it like a routine, they treat it like a priveledge. Viva la Pearl Jam!

I think some people just like to complain. Incredible setlist, I'd take that in Philly right now.

Great show! The sound had a lot of echo from where I was sitting. I was hoping for closer seats. Very short person, but at least the big screens were there to view. Then after seeing Ed and Mike came down into the crowd, I was kicking myself for not trying to pit tickets. PJ put on one hell of a show.

Here's a link to the video of the Lightning Bolt from Amalie Arena's twitter.

    Thanks Karen!

I like the set list from this Tampa show. It's too bad I no longer live in Tampa because I would have liked to hear these songs!

I thought that pj had a very full arena for a Tampa show too. Often that arena is half empty!

I have to add this... I just went to the Maiden show in Toronto a few weeks back, and just like PJ they have fans travelling in from all over the place, seeing multiple shows, a massive loyal fanbase. But what they get is the exact same set every night from tour start until tours end. After watching the opening night of the tour on youtube, I knew exactly what song they would open with and the order of songs all the way until the encore.
I love the anticipation of the upcoming PJ shows and not knowing what the hell is going to happen. The set could have a full album, it could open with alive, for fucks sake they could open with bugs! The point is there is absolutely no need to complain about what they did or didn't play at your show. Your shows setlist was crafted by the band on the day of the show, and you know it won't be what the last nights or last weeks set looked like at all. So lucky to be able to do Ottawa & Toronto this tour, can't wait.

Pendulum was great. I heard it in Brooklyn as opener and while it is a great way to open the show I didn't like that they opened with it for so many shows since it became predictable. I think they are sending a loud and clear message that this 2016 tour is going to be different which is exciting. From fast openers, playing WMA in full, playing pendulum as a non-opener, not playing yellow Ledbetter, coming out on stage with the lights up, etc.

  • Pearl Jam has a huge problem and that's why there will always be complaining about setlists.

They have too many good songs. Can't fix that.

    Lucky you..
I have a visceral love for some songs that are considered 'garbage' from many folks here (these two mentioned songs, and Cropduster, You Are, Help Help, Sleight of Hand, Evacuation, and so on..) It's not because they're rare, or because of their time signatures (In the Moonlight main riff is in 11/8 for fuck's sake), but just because they're pure brilliance.. if you don't get it, well I'm sorry for you (I'm lookin at you mcgruff.. eheheh)

oh, and when I was reading this setlist earlier today, I was actually thinking this was one hell of a setlist.. sometimes I criticize PJ for more than one reason, but the way they play and choose a setlist night after night has never been one of them. If you don't think this show (at least on paper) is a true gem, you either have been to too many shows, or you're not a fan of their music, simply put.

I like this sentiment... Lucky people at the Florida shows.

Also, if I ever heard You Are live, I don't even know what I'd do.

The wave from Ft Lauderdale continues. I brought the wifey to Tampa (it was our 18th year together) and as some of you may know, EV played Patriot in honor of our boy, so she wanted to thank the band for doing that for us Friday night. It was a bittersweet night, as today is 1 month since his passing.

We scored some high row side section seats on the release yesterday, we made a sign that read "Tylers Mom Thanks You For -->" which pointed to my sign asking for Patriot.

As Betterman was playing, she said she just felt an urge to go down low enough so that the band could see her sign as they came off stage, and she went down to bottom of the stairs to the front row. Not realizing the VIP contingency was sitting in the first few seats of the first row, she was asked by a band members wife (that shall remain nameless for now) what the sign was for, and I explained it to her. She began to well up, gave wife a big hug and asked if we were going to the Jax show, I said yes, and she asked if we had good seats. I said I had 10C GA's, but wifey probably shouldn't be in the pit with her neck brace(long story, but she didn't like the news we got that dreadful early morning, and hit the deck). She responded by asking for my info and we tore off a piece of the sign, I gave her my name/number and she handed it to security, and said let me take care of that for you. So, I dunno what I'll have waiting for me at will call, but I still can't believe it. Waiting in the beer line, outside the venue, and in our section a bunch of people recognized us, and wanted to just say thanks for our boy's service and shake my hand/give the wifey a hug.

A good friend of mine said we're almost like celebrities now (at least within the PJ Fanbase). I never expected all of this, just did what I thought would be a cool way to honor my son, by requesting a song, and all this other craziness is happening.

During the show, the couple next to us recognized my shirt (it has the names of both boys killed in the accident), and the girl knew my boy as he used to go the place she works with his friends in Cocoa Beach, how in the hell you end up next someone who recognizes you from home in a place with ~18,000 people is beyond me.

Anwyay we're beyond grateful for all the love and support we've been shown, and we'll be sure to let you know how Jax goes tomorrow night.

Thanks again, and hopefully we see some more of you looking to stop by and say hi. If I remember tomorrow, I may post where we're tailgating at to let ya'll know.

We shall be angry together while drinking beers one day before a pj show!!! I saw my father s son in St. Louis And it sucked the energy out of the crowd. And like I said in another thread, 95% of the audience has zero clue as to what in the moonlight is.

theyre really trying to mix it up. Were in for another surprise in jax...i can still name dozens of songs and endless of dream combos that would make you go bonkers. Possible songs for jax:

    Fast opener again? Once?
Garden, rats, leash, breath, not for you
    You are...to open a set?
    Inside job, gone
    Insignificane, off the girl?????

Dude every show is going to be crazy

This is pretty accurate, based on my view from sec 117. Mike was all set to play another song after Baba (note: the written setlist ended w/ Baba) and strummed a couple notes from YL. Then everyone else kind of scrambled for instruments and got on board as Mike shifted into LW.

Can I call some attention to that immaculate performance of Wasted Reprise and Life Wasted? Ed forgot the second verse in 2008, so that was cathartic.

They had def talked about playing it beforehand. I saw Stone lay down a "cheat sheet" near his feet to play the song before they started. Eddie had the lyrics ready to go as well.

alright... back at work 2 days later... should sit down and write some kind of review.

10C reserved - section 116, row G.... fucking beautiful seats (344XXX). Couldn't ask for better. Nice change of pace too - I usually wind up on stone's side of the ship, being closer to Mike was pretty awesome....

On the multiple comments about sound: At least twice during the show, for about 10-15 seconds each, got a massive blast of feedback from Mike's kit... didn't last longer than that, but it was there. To be critical: Jeff's bass levels were to high, but that got lost in the wash while rocking out. Ed sounded great. Love hearing him early in the tour, his voice is usually stronger. Matt was on point - over the course of 25+ shows in the last decade, I have gone from calling him to metronome to realizing that his is the glue that holds this group together... and that soundgarden cannot have him back.

I always love hearing Red Mosquito, LBC, Lukin, and now comeback... it's funny to me that people are now calling them "deep cuts" cause it seems i've gotten them repeatedly lately. but so awesome... love the opening jam they do now it's LBC, it is great.

Highlight of the show for sure was Sonic Reducer - I have been chasing that tune for a while, and they killed it (after Ed killed his guitar)... sooo much energy, and the 10C ate it up. And that poor guitar... Mike's heart broke when Ed smashed it.... it was funny to see, but traumatic at the same time.... it definitely was not planned (at least judging from Mike's reaction).

Little wing was definitely an audible as others have stated. From where I was sitting I watched Mike signal to his tech that he wanted another guitar - it was totally his call. It might have been a "maybe" tune, but Mike made that decision for sure... and I was very happy they chose not to end the show with Baba (though I do love Baba).

As others have said In the moonlight was polarizing - even most people in the 10C section didn't recognize it, myself included. I knew the tune, but couldn't have named it if you put a gun to my head. It was for the collector for sure, and definitely deserves the name title of a "B" side... one some love and others hate.

I was a little disappointed they didn't open with one of the traditional openers... I have heard Why Go so many times, but it got the 10C section up and ready for sure... when they played HTI 1/2 way through the set it more than made up for it..

The brick in the wall tag on daughter was great too.... the crowd caught on so quick. And as a pink floyd maniac (who saw gilmour a week ago in toronto) is all came full circle.

And getaway to close out lightning bolt for me.... love that tune. The start sounds a little awkward live, but once it gets rolling it is a rocker for sure. enjoyed.... it's been stuck in my head ever since...

and (last comment), I can't close this review without mentioning Blood to close the first set... just jaw-droppingly awesome, and completely unexpected change of pace. they need to do that more often... mix it in there with rearview and porch, etc...

Looking forward to NOLA in a week and a 1/2. It can't come fast enough. So jealous of what's going to get pulled out in Philly/NYC/Toronto.... if this is what the band is doing in Tampa, all those shows are going to be something spectacular.

alright... back at work 2 days later... should sit down and write some kind of review.
