I work in streeterville. Lots of good hotels there. You can take the redline north, or better yet, rent a divvy bike and ride it up there and drop off in a local kiosk. Chicago has gotten pretty bicycle friendly over the years.
What I will say (based on our experience at Wrigley) is that it is a nightmare to leave the Wrigley area on the trains, cabs, etc. If you can get a hotel within walking distance- do it.
I am staying downtown on the Loop, as I always do. I decided to save a little money and stay at the Congress Plaza Hotel. It is serviceable and not fancy, but gets the job done if you don't plan on hanging out in your room.
Getting from Wrigley to downtown can indeed take a lot of time. If you are patient or if you are cool with waiting around for an hour or more after the show, you should be able to hop on the red line or get a cab.
I am going to be getting a 3 day CTA pass and will be taking the red line back and forth, unless the opportunity presents itself and I am completely exhausted, at which point I will find a cab ($25+ cab ride normally from Wrigley to the Loop.)
My advice is to just stay someplace nice downtown near a red line stop. Expedia's hotel map, for example, shows all the CTA stops for your convenience. From the downtown area, you just take the red line north to Addison.
Days Inn on Diversey. Awesome area and easily walkable to Wrigley.
Sold out from the 20th to the 23rd... Jammers had fully booked that place up for sure two days ago

If the show ends at the normal time then it won't be nearly as bad as getting out of there in 2013 was. That was a mess.
inn at lincoln park. Across street from Days inn mentioned above. Got a good rate yesterday. Very walkable to Wrigley. Not fancy but just need a serviceable place to sleep.

The Brown line train is another option if you are staying in the loop. The closest brown line stop is on Southport about 3-4 blocks away from Wrigley. It Will be a LOT less crowded than the red line. It wasn't an option in 2013 since it stops running at 130 am

Hotel Congress across from Grant Park. It's a dive but a great locale and inexpensive considering all the events that weekend not including PJ

Since it will be our first time in Chicago, we opted for staying downtown and we've just booked Hotel Blake which is pretty close to the red line. The hotel seems beautiful, we've found a good rate on booking.com
My favorite hotel in chicago is The Talbott. My wife and I are staying there when we see David Gilmour in april.
^^This.
We stayed here in 2012 for our friends wedding and in 2013 for the first Wrigley show. Great hotel, great location. I have a room booked here for August but our friend also booked The All Star suites right next to Wrigley, we will probably let our room at the Talbott go.
Ive stayed at the Ohio House twice when ive gone to Chicago for shows, its cheap and basic and a cab ride to Wrigley for sure definitely couldn't walk...I learned a lesson the last time after the Wrigley delay that getting a cab back there at 2am was near impossible ha...what I liked about it was its within walking distance to pizza places, shops, and navy pier
Also have stayed at the Congress both for Lollapalooza and Eddie Vedder solo

I almost stayed there in 2013 but then I read some reviews that changed my mind. Ended up staying at the Hyatt Magnificent Mile. Wasn't the easiest getting back to after the concert but worked out great for Saturday when we spent the day in the city.
Staying in Downtown at the Warwick Allerton, found a great deal through triple A! Our experience with Wrigley to get to and from downtown through the redline was fairly easy. Always enjoy staying in downtown, lots to do in the area.
I just got a place on airbnb for less than $100/night, within a mile and a half of the stadium. Then I cancelled my hotel that was 10 miles away for the same price.

Really any place near an L station would be good. Wrigley is right on the red line so getting to the show will be easy.
