I have a question for the locals. We're traveling from Maryland (the Eastern Shore), and will be going to Raleigh for the show on the 20th. Any suggestions for sightseeing from Greenville to Raleigh? What cities are fun? We love baseball, quirky places, music (of course!), and art. Thanks for any suggestions!

One option is to drive one hour to Asheville and watch the Asheville tourists baseball, catch a show at the orange peel and then hit i-40 to for 4 hours to Raleigh.

In for GA! And thanks to my Bonnaroo obsession (and the many wonderful people I have met and become close friends with), I have free places to stay pretty much in any decent size city in the country.

Has anyone done Priceline for a hotel room yet? Looks like there aren't many choices within walking distance.

We are staying at the Candlewood Suites. Has great reviews and is a short drive to arena/downtown. $100 per night.

Was also hoping to utilize Uber if available. I found this:
    https://www.uber.com/cities/greenville-sc
then I found this:....but its a year old
    http://www.wyff4.com/news/uber-now-illegal-in-south-carolina/30749378

    Update:

It dawned on me that I could just open the app, move the map to Greenville...and what do you know, I see lots of little Uber cars, so it looks like the service is available..

just booked a hotel at the embassy suites, too bad the regency is already booked as it is walking distance. Pandora and I stayed there when we saw Clapton several years ago.

Hotels: Best choice is hotel downtown. It is one of the most walkable downtowns in the country so if you can find a room there it is worth it. Hampton Inn, Courtyard, Hyatt, Westin are the main ones I can think of. Aloft is brand new and opening soon. Main street runs north to south. Arena is on the North side. Hyatt is pretty much across the street and Aloft would be second closest. Hampton, Westin, Courtyard are more south but still within walking distance to arena. All three are relatively close to Falls Park and the Reedy River (Hampton right on river).

There are also a lot of hotels just outside downtown along 385 and 85.

Just booked at a Days Inn using Priceline. It's five miles away and was $61 (and that's with tax). Depending on what site you look at it's a two or three star hotel. Works for us...more momey to spend elsewhere!

Asheville is the best "destination" city that's not too far out of the way. You've got the mountains with great hiking trails on the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Biltmore estate, lots of quirky shopping places. Plus, it's a great beer city with lots of local breweries. It's about a 3 hour drive from where I live and my wife and I travel up that way for long weekends pretty regularly.

There are some things to do in Charlotte, but I wouldn't go out of my way just to visit there. They do have the Knights (AAA team of the White Sox) if you really want to maximize the baseball opportunities.
  • My fiancé and I are staying at the Baymont inn and suites like 3.5 miles away and the first room option we were trying to book became unavailable in the time it took to enter our credit card info. I'm guessing the hotels may fill up quickly for that weekend so we wanted to have it booked before the public sale starts tomorrow.
