Has anybody read Naked Lunch by William S Burroughs?
I've heard it is really messed up and not worth the read yet it is a classic.
I saw it for $10 in a book store and wasn't sure if I should pick it up.

    Get it..

Often, I read Sanderson Pages 69-102 last night. Been slow going with the XMas and New Years travels. ;)

@Thoughts_Arrive --- yes, get Naked Lunch. Whacky/interesting book.

I heard it's got acts of pedophilia in it, I don't think I want to

    "Movement of Jah people."

And while I don't fully agree with you about it being the best book -- and I've read it all the way through (plus the apocrypha) twice, I will say that Game of Thrones ain't got nothing on the Old Testament.

Have read it cover to cover as well...and beg to differ -- GoT crushes the Bible IMO and it doesn't claim to be literal.

The Bible does not claim to be literal, F Me. That's on people and certain institutions.

I have not read the Martin books, but a lot of events from the show are certainly influenced by the OT quite a bit and a little from the weaker NT.

Sounds fair DK, I cannot recall the text actually proclaiming to be factual. [I also think the OT is certainly one of the most influential books around...why I think everyone should read it. So many references/influences in our culture.]
Sorry to wander off topic, I am still reading Sanderson's Mistborn Book #2....need to get back to it!

    I purchased these books yesterday:

The Power Of Now - By Eckhart Tolle
Catcher In The Rye - By JD Salinger

    Anyone read these books? Thoughts?
I have 60 days to read them and return if I don't like them.
I am always skeptical and not filled with hope with self help books, I hope Power Of Now makes me happier.

Think every American of the 30-50 age bracket has read this at some point, as it is a book they used to teach in high school....have no idea if they still use it. Really a great book and I am sure it would mean something different as a 41 yr old then it did as a 14 year old.

As an adult, I prefer Salinger's stories about the Glass family, but as a teenager, I felt a kindred spirit in Holden Caulfield. And what's left of 15-year-old dankind (more than you'd think) still gets goosebumps and throat lumps when reading certain sections of Catcher in the Rye.

I am reading The Power of Now in the mornings and Catcher in the Rye in the evenings.
    I don't know if that's a wise idea haha.
