I've been in the Bruce pit probably close to 10 times, but never for PJ. My guess is there won't exactly be anyone ON you, but you won't be able to swing your arms around like a maniac either. At least for Bruce, I tried not to end up in the middle. Front row is a truly rare experience, the middle has good quality, and the back of the pit has tons of freedom to move and use facilities. The thing with the middle is you can't really leave, it can get congested, and you sometimes have to deal with snakes trying to weasel their way to the stage one body at a time. That gets annoying.
I've had GA twice. Both times walked down maybe 10-15 mins before show started, stood 15-20 rows back dead center, and had a ton of space. I'd guess the fans fill only 2/3rds of the allotted GA space.

GA space is crazier on Mike's side and in the middle. Things tend to be pretty calm on Stone's side.
I plan to just hang out in the back of the pit if I'm lucky to get in the GA section. Also the band doesn't put up with too much crazy stuff in the pit. They will stop the show if it gets too out of control.

I've walked in 30 minutes before and was about 4-5 rows back on Mikes side. There is some room, but not a lot. I tend to stand near the side on Mikes side, so when it's time for pee break or whatever, you are close to the open area on the side and it's easy to get in and out of. Being in the very middle can be a little tough to get in and out of. You have to pass a lot of people, and not everyone always remembers you were already in there and may not be as kind letting you back in. Even the back of the "pit" is great. Still really close to stage and lots of freedom to walk around.
