I was at Bonnaroo in 2008, and there was a section at the front for the VIP ticket holders, so as a general GA show, you could only get so close unless you ponied up for the VIP experience. Still an awesome, awesome experience and I would definitely go again if I didnt have a 1 year old to look after!

The Pit in front of the main stage (the What Stage) is open for everybody , not just VIP. They open the gates to the field at 12pm daily and you can line up for the headliners starting then. If you want up front you put in the time and get there. The pit is cleared out between each main stage act through out the day and before the next act, they let the line of people in for that show. At a certain point after the show is started if it is fullish, they stop letting GA wristbanded people in to the pit and save the last bit of room for the VIP wrist bands. I have been up front for several shows(BB King, Stevie Wonder, Alabama Shakes, John Foggerty to name a few) never bought a VIP pass.

Brief and unimportant soap box.... so the state of music today is that there are now advance declarations of when announcements will be made. Has everyone lost their mind in this industry?? LOL. It's music! It just strikes me like there is this air of self importance. Just make your lineup announcement and move on, it literally changes nothing. I understand that there is the "marketing" aspect but if timing gimmicks are needed, then maybe the product should be improved instead.

    End soap box

But to us the Bonnaroovian clan, announcement day is a big deal, and we are chomping at the bit for this day since we left Manchester last year. This year is extra great that my favorite band is coming back to my favorite place in the world. Give it a shot come to TN this year!

Thanks for the clarification... that was my first and only time at Bonnaroo so far... I was not aware of the separate line/entrance that was available to the general population there... I just remembered when it came time for PJ to come on stage there was a barrier preventing me from getting up front... never really dug much further than that (assumed it was for VIP). At least now if I go back and for others we will know how that process works! - - I certainly recommend the ROO if you've never been before.

It is a little different and i would guess about half of the first timers also think it's for VIP, but it's a great system that prevents crowd crush. I wish more of the faithful here would give it a chance instead of poo pooing the idea all together.

^I get where you're coming fr9m, I really do. I even agree with you. Yet, here we all are like perfect little sheep herding ourselves to this thread daily (some more than others) 4 months later. Kind of the same thing.

^You've definitely got a point! Haha.

Oh I totally get it that it would get the fans excited and I definitely do not mean to imply that the actual event isn't awesome as I'm sure it is (never been). It's just crazy the layers of secrecy and announcements about announcements that go on these days, haha.

Bonnaroo artists leaked onto the Bonnaroo app. According to that, Pearl Jam is NOT on the Bonnaroo bill.

That list was missing all 3 headliners. They are there, it is happening.

Yup, they're happening. And if the undercard leak is true then this year's Roo has the makings of another stellar festival in small-town TN. After three years of fun in the sun ('08, '09, '10) I said I'd only return to the Roo only if PJ played again. May be time to start making rental reservations for an RV.....

Yeah other than the headliners- LCD is cool and the dead is kinda cool they're doing a fest- are super lame. After you see a lineup like jazz fest it's hard to appreciate this.

Bonnaroo’s 2016 lineup prematurely leaks online

Pearl Jam, LCD Soundsysteam, Dead and Company, Ween, M83, Tame Impala, more set to play The Farm next June

    by Alex Young

Bonnaroo is set to reveal its 2016 lineup on Conan next Tuesday. However, last night the festival prematurely leaked a majority of the artists playing via its mobile app.

The leak contained the names of 91 artists, but the festival’s headliners were not among them. Consequence of Sound has learned that Pearl Jam will top this year’s lineup alongside LCD Soundsystem and Dead and Company, the new collaboration featuring members of the Grateful Dead and John Mayer.

Among those artists who were revealed via the festival’s app: Ween, M83, Tame Impala, HAIM, Vince Staples, Miguel, Father John Misty, Death Cab For Cutie, CHVRCHES, and Tyler, the Creator.

Other highlights include Purity Ring, Kurt Vile and the Violators, Waxahatchee, Natalie Prass, Blood Orange, Daughter, Big Grams (Big Boi and Phantogram), Twin Peaks, St. Lucia, Shamir, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, Hundred Waters, Lucius, FIDLAR, and Beach Fossils.

The lineup also features Third Eye Blind, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Ellie Goulding, Zeds Dead, J. Cole, Chris Stapelton, Mavis Staples, Grace Potter, Leon Bridges, Brett Dennen, Two Door Cinema Club, Lamb of God, Dungen, Clutch, Jason Isbell, Lettuce, Lord Huron, Givers, Halsey, Sara Watkins, Sam Bush Band, Flosstradamus, Vulfpeck, Chasmere Cat, X Ambassadors, BØRNS, and more.

A festival source confirmed the veracity of the leak.

Reached for comment, a festival representative responded, “I love this time of year, it is always filled with anticipation and speculation. As you know, we will be releasing our official lineup the 19th on Conan. The show is going to be a good one.”

Bonnaroo takes place June 9th – 12th in Manchester, Tennessee. Tickets will go on sale next week.

This gives me hope that they might play Pemberton Festival near Whistler. Dates are July 14-17. After a southern run they could make their way up north. Just might work! Soundgarden played it two years ago.

Jazz fest and Bonnaroo are different beasts altogether. Jazz fest is 2 weekends and no camping which adds to the overall cost of attending. If you've never been to Bonnaroo before, you just can't comprehend the amount of fun there is to be had there. Headliners are great and i cant wait for my favorite band to come back, but it is the experience as a whole that has me looking forward to that weekend all year long. Give it a shot come to TN.
