Jack, No Code

I've decided, in my honest opinion, that this disc has the best drumming of all the albums. Been falling asleep listening to all the studio recordings lately, and it just blows me away! Can't wait for 2016 tour!!!

I agree. I listened to Melbourne 98 last week on vinyl for the first time in a long time and it made me start looking around the web for jack shows. Maybe I'm just nostalgic but those were the best years for the bands creativity and spiritual growth to me.

No Code and Yield- definitely two of my favorites and Jack Irons played a major role that way.

these guys were so creative at this time. Although time has slowed them down it seems. I know they can put out another masterpiece if they really wanted to. Obviously, the talent is still there. I just think the side projects have watered down Pearl Jams creativity.

Lol, I thought it said Jack no coke. Having a Jack and Coke or Lemmy, right now waiting for the memorial service to start.

I've often had this feeling that when age starts to creep into their bones a bit more it will hit the guys that the jumps won't always be so high and the jams quite so easy to kick out and that might inspire (or a even incite) them to crank out a return to glory perios. The best example of this I can think of is when Neil Young started working out in the late eighties, came out with "Rockin' in the Free World" and Ragged Glory. Tons of energy and by then, not a young man anymore.

If they want it badly enough, Pearl Jam's Ragged Glory could be huge.

hmm...you might be on to something here. i'm really getting the feeling that PJ is too boring or too difficult for the band members. The side projects kind of seem like something each of the guys can do with less conflict. the thing is, none of us care too much about these projects.

I guess they aren't currently and never did create their art either in PJ or side projects for us. I think creativity naturally waxes and wanes. Ebbs and flows. Changes and grows. The artist has to be willing to go with it. Don't fight it. I'd love a return to the more groovy feel in the music, a little atmospheric or spacey sound, subtle sounds in the background that you don't hear until you've listened to the song dozens of times, less obvious and more subtle and thought provoking lyrics. I'm not the artist though. I love no code through riot act for these reasons.

I always thought Dave was the best drummer. However, the more I listen to boots with Jack on drums, the more I question my own opinion. Studio wise I prefer Dave. Live... tough call.

I think this is pretty spot on. Maybe bring back Jack for one album in order to get the creative juices going again.

isn't Matt Cameron going to do some stuff with Soundgarden again? Maybe Jack could come back while he does that and if they do some touring, but hasn't the band said there would be no PJ without Matt?

He doesn't like how long Pearl Jam shows are.

Matt clearly chose Pearl Jam when both were touring simultaneously in 2014. That's how I witnessed Soundgarden with Matt Chamberlain.
