My first, expensive, PJ vinyl
Long time lurker, not so much poster here.
I have recently bought the Avocado vinyl. To me, this is the first in line of the, rediculously, expensive PJ vinyls (Riot Act, Binaural, Lost Dogs, Benny etc.)
I've been a Pearl Jam fan and collector since '91. And I bought all vinyl LP's up until No Code. Then I started university, and just did'nt have the cash anymore to buy anything but the latest album or single on cd.
My question to you is. What was your first expensive/ holy grail PJ vinyl purchase? And, was it worth it?
Cheers

My first purchase, if you could call it that, was also Avocado but i got mine in the RSD Mystery Vinyl so i got majorly lucky! I've only been collecting for a year or two so have a long list of rediculously expensive Pearl Jam vinyl to buy.
Congrats on your purchase, hopefully it's the first of many!If hope could grow from dirt like me, it can be done.......0 -
Binaural and Benny, but both were a long time ago before the vinyl price explosion...got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul...0

Benny for me. Of course it was worth it!!!0

My first expensive one was Binaural. Yes, it was so worth it

My Benny from the mystery sale gets an honorary mention because oh my, I think nothing can ever top that!
Good for you with the Avocado, besides RVM that is the only one we don't have as original yet. I have started buying vinyl in 2009, it is a hobby that requires patience if you are after some certain things. But that patience can be rewarded, and when it does, it feels awesome. I spin all my albums, that sometimes sweetens paying a higher price. But I have limits. My Binaural was 200 bucks. I don't think I could justify paying more for an album. That is why reissues would be awesome!
I recommend opening a discogs account if you don't have one yet. It is good to organise your collection and also lets you set alarms for when a certain album you are after is on sale.Post edited by Leezestarr313 onPlease, Pearl Jam, consider a Benaroya Hall vinyl reissue! http://community.pearljam.com/discussion/148993/please-pearl-jam-consider-a-vinyl-benaroya-hall-re-issue0 -
Congrats and enjoy! I'm in the same boat. I have everything until No Code and there I stop. Some day I'll hear those tunes on vinyl.5/3/92 Omaha, NE

I have the the cash to pony up for all of the studio albums, but I won't, based on principle. I am waiting for reissues.0

First question, Riot Act $ 100, Binaural $150, Lost Dogs $145, in that order, all between August and September 2009.no code said:Hello,

Second question, of course, don't know why you asked that, how much did you pay for Avocado? Was it worth it? Are you having second thoughts? Buyer's remorse can be easily shaken off...

Yeah I'm assuming since you lurk here you know this but the reissues aren't very good IMO. They all sound so so and they're usually pressed on 2 discs which means more flipping. My fat ass says nay nay to that.
Try to buy things here in the shop when the 10c does specials/ or when prices are good and then trade them for what you need- it takes time but the prices are just out of whack for what you're getting. No one should have to spend $1000+ on a 4 record set..
I'm like an opening band for your mom.0 -
Yield was mine, about 2 years ago. I "only" paid $90 for it and it still had the Yield sticker, so it was worth it in my mind. I managed to complete my collection by obtaining Binaural about 2 months ago. So I did it in less than 2 years, and rarely did I spend more than $150 on anything. I managed to get Benaroya Hall and Lost Dogs as gifts, so I'd consider myself pretty lucky.Star Lake 00 / Pittsburgh 03 / State College 03 / Bristow 03 / Cleveland 06 / Camden II 06 / DC 08 / Pittsburgh 13 / Baltimore 13 / Charlottesville 13 / Cincinnati 14 / St. Paul 14 / Hampton 16 / Wrigley I 16 / Wrigley II 16 / Baltimore 20 / Camden 22 / Baltimore 24 / Raleigh I 25 / Raleigh II 25 / Pittsburgh I 250

Mine was vault 4. $87.49 Canadian, and I bought it from ten club haha. But yes it was worth it.0

I'm in the opposite position. Assuming the ebay auction was legit (which by the sellers rating and the fact the bothered to point out that it wasn't a bootleg) I just acquired a Soldier Field vinyl. I know it's a promo record, but it was the one holdout in my collection. I might not have the colour variations on certain vinyl (ahem backspacer or pj20) but at least it makes it feel like my 12" album PJ collection is pretty much complete (I will be gutpunched if the soldier field turns out to be fake
).
Best of luck in your collecting... Hopefully a few of the more expensive ones get reissued (Yield/No Code?) for you in the not too distance future.0 -

Congrats!!
My first was a No Code/Vitalogy bundle from eBay, both sealed, $300, and yes, it was worth it. I jumped in with both feet after that. I had all the rest of the studio albums plus most of the other LPs within a year and a half. It was an expensive year and a half, lol! It was that first PJ vinyl purchase that was the literal start of my entire vinyl collection, too (a passion resurrected at that time - I had ditched vinyl in the late 80s - dumbest thing I ever did in my life). Up to over 170 albums now. All I still need for PJ is the Benny and Soldier Field..... neither of which I'm ever likely to own, but oh well. I still consider my PJ LP collection sort of an achievement! With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
I do still need Soldier Field... but I'm not hell-bent on obtaining it. I'll consider my collection complete without it, but if I stumble upon one for cheap, I might try to snag it. Be cool if they eventually did it as a Vault.Zod said:I'm in the opposite position. And yes, good luck OP. Patience and diligence are key. Just fyi, I got most of my vinyl on ebay as I often found better deals there than here on the board, believe it or not.

I lost an auction for a Solder Field vinyl for 200 Euros (I bid $200) only to win one the next day for around $175ish USD. Those things used to go for over 300USD in mint/sealed condition. Maybe prices are dropping (and/or the insane amount of bootlegs are driving down the demand for the authentic item). There's copious amounts of studio bootlegs out there now too.. so maybe a bunch of people have figured the bootleg's good enough for their collection rather than spending $200 for a real copy. Less demand equals lower prices (even if it's bootlegs filling that demand).HesCalledDyer said:

haha forgot about this one. My most expensive too, for a single record.cp3iverson said:Signed Backspacer is my most expensive Vinyl ever
Edit: The ITW picture disc I bought last year for myself for Xmas was about the same as the signed BS.
Bought a set of the boxset sampler 7" records with the box about 18 months ago. Most expensive PJ vinyl purchase for sure, but not a single record."Born on third, thinks he got a triple."0
