I found an old Technics SL D2 - for 30 bucks I have used for the last few years. It's semi auto - I like it becasue it's a direct drive - a motor instead of a belt - and when the record side is over - it picks up and stops - I move around in my house a bit and do not want to worry about the needle and the damage that might be done!!!0

Denon DP-300F with an upgraded cartridge is popular these days (I have it, and it's great). With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0

The OP needs to define what they mean by "best". Is money not an issue? Many people do like the ATLP 120 as a starter table with automatic function. I bought one for my sister in-law and it sounded decent. It also won't ruin your records like a Crosley.2-feign-reluctance said:I love my ATLP 120. Affordable, don't know if its the best though.
1991- Hollywood Palladium, California with Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains -RIP Magazine Show Oct. 6th

I'm using a Technics 3300, I love it. Another nice fully automatic TT by Technics is the SL-1600. These are obviously both vintage turntables, you wont find these in stores.0

I have an ancient Dual 1264 that's been refurbished. Works great! Solid build.0

+1. That's what I've been using. When I was researching it was a abundantly clear the stock cartidge is mediocre. Needledoctor was selling a combo set and packing it with an ortofon red cartridge. The combination works really well.PJ_Soul said:Denon DP-300F with an upgraded cartridge is popular these days (I have it, and it's great).

Looks like the Denon might be cool if you really need a fully auto turntable, but at that price it seems like a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon might be a better choice for a little bit more. I like the fact that the Ortofon 2M Red was already installed on the Debut. I don't know much about the Denon and the lazy side of me thinks auto would be nice, but it's the sound that is most important to me.
I love my Carbon. It was fun doing a side by side comparison with my Numark ProTT1 with a Shure M97xE cart, which was a decent setup, IMO. The Carbon blew it away. I was hearing sounds that I couldn't hear before. I primarily used Handwritten by The Gaslight Anthem. It was like listening to the record for the first time.1991- Hollywood Palladium, California with Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains -RIP Magazine Show Oct. 6th

The sound is great on the Denon though. I don't think the Carbon is supposed to sound any better actually. And the Orofon 2M Red is already installed on the Denon as well. I believe that deal is still available on needledoctor, in fact. $410 for the package (built-in preamp). You can further improve it by using an external preamp, but it still sounds great without one.lexicondevil said:Looks like the Denon might be cool if you really need a fully auto turntable, but at that price it seems like a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon might be a better choice for a little bit more. Some people really prefer the automatic. For me, it is an absolute necessity. There are plenty of good, affordable manual TTs. But I would personally never buy a TT that isn't auto.Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. With a $200 limit you should go vintage. Get online and find a store that specializes in refurbished turntables and see what they can do to help. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0

This is actually the one I got for my sister in-law, not the 120. Cheap price and you can then buy the Shure cart that I mentioned earlier. Vintage would be great as well, You just have to do a lot of searching and make sure the person selling it knows what they are talking about. amazon.com/Technica-AT-LP60-Automatic-Stereo-Turntable/dp/B002GYTPAE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1447084859&sr=8-3&keywords=atlp+1201991- Hollywood Palladium, California with Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains -RIP Magazine Show Oct. 6th
