what are these called then? i always thought these were Meme's?
that is a meme.
not according to Rollings it's not
wanna fight?
fine..... when and where
why wasn't the dork detector that you posted not a meme then?
(you mean "she").... a meme is more than just a picture with words ....it has to be a "thing" that catches on and is used alot. if you Google image " I asked god for a bike " and then also Google image "Dork detector finods another one" you will see the difference

ok first off sorry for calling you a "he". I kinda get what you are saying about the difference now but if the dork detector isn't a meme then why did you post it in the first place?

According to Wikipedia, a "meme" is "an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture".
If that's true, I don't think we've seen any true "memes" here so far. And if that definition is true, here are some things I think might be examples of memes:
G.I. generation meme: suburban home with lawn intended to give the impression of owning a tiny ranch.
Baby Boomer meme: Promote peace and love in your youth, pursue prosperity in you aging years.
Hardcore punk meme: fuck memes.
Generation X meme: sarcasm
Millennial meme: The center of the universe is located in your hand held device.
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”

Mr. Lux Surely you jest in not knowing what a meme is. It is the current folks on scene who don't realize the founding father of such a term. The selfish gene is a great read. It's one book amongst the many on my shelf. And if anyone cares to delve further into this the link is provided after the meme.
