As tends to happen every so often, I got reminded of this show this morning, and have been listening to it all day long. I've had this boot for 10+ years and have always counted it as my favorite, despite the sound quality not being as professional as the "official" boots. I don't know what kind of reverence it gets around these parts, but somehow I feel like it must be underrated because every time I listen to it I can't help but gush over how fucking good it is.
Ed mentions early on that a friend of the band's had recently passed, and the emotion is palpable in the next few songs, with Ed getting choked up multiple times and visibly crying by the end of Dissident (https://youtu.be/SKBFClHND_Y), after which he has to take a break to "compose" himself.
The emotions turn the other way later on with the infamous quarter rant, wherein Ed goes completely apeshit on a fan who is throwing quarters on the stage, giving the crowd permission to kick his ass.
This show holds my favorite versions of Throw Your Arms Around Me, the Save It For Later tag to Better Man, Dissident, and Given to Fly, and one of my favorite versions of Release. I keep hoping that one day this will be a vault vinyl, as it deserves to be. It's too damn good to ever fade into obscurity.
