Okay so the red line comment about Obama? So if you were president how would you have handled Syria and Ukraine?Jason P said:All Russia needs to do now is set up anti-aircraft SAM's and start flying sorties and they control the airspace. Any NATO flight will risk starting WWIII if they enter Syria. No way Obama risks challenging that. Brilliant gamesmanship by Putin that only works because of his "no fucks" attitude towards the West, especially how we reacted on his invasion of the Ukraine.
Amazing. 8 years ago I marveled at the fact that the Cold War was over.

I wouldn't draw red lines that I had no intention to back up. I would look at the stability of a region before making a campaign promise so people would like me.callen said:

As it is now, all I can do is step back and just watch it all burn.Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0 -
Agree that was a stupid ploy strategy and failed. But prior to Obama saying this, what do you think the us should of done.10-18-2000 Houston, 04-06-2003 Houston, 6-25-2003 Toronto, 10-8-2004 Kissimmee, 9-4-2005 Calgary, 12-3-05 Sao Paulo, 7-2-2006 Denver, 7-22-06 Gorge, 7-23-2006 Gorge, 9-13-2006 Bern, 6-22-2008 DC, 6-24-2008 MSG, 6-25-2008 MSG0

I don't know if he wasn't listening to his advisers or if his advisers are really bad at their jobs, but one big disadvantage that Obama has when compared to Putin, is that he takes a lot of time to gauge public perception and then haphazardly reacts. Putin just acts and he is calculated well ahead of time.callen said:Agree that was a stupid ploy strategy and failed. But prior to Obama saying this, what do you think the us should of done.
Since the Ukraine isn't in NATO, I admit there isn't much he could do. To let another nation kick you out of a region where you were waging an active military campaign doesn't look very good.

Jason your not answering my question.
There just weren't any good solutions and think keeping our activity low was best choice. Confronting Putin militarily or putting our troops on ground in Syria a mistake.
So yeah we look weak but cool by me.10-18-2000 Houston, 04-06-2003 Houston, 6-25-2003 Toronto, 10-8-2004 Kissimmee, 9-4-2005 Calgary, 12-3-05 Sao Paulo, 7-2-2006 Denver, 7-22-06 Gorge, 7-23-2006 Gorge, 9-13-2006 Bern, 6-22-2008 DC, 6-24-2008 MSG, 6-25-2008 MSG0 -
Yeah, I was just kinda giving the prez some shit. Remember when he said that using chemical weapons by the Syrian regime would be a "red line", then he acted like he was going to do something until Putin sent his warships in. I'm glad he backed off, just think red lines are a stupid thing for the commander in chief to do unless your gonna back it up.callen said:

We will have to see how this plays out. I foresee full-scale ground troop escalation by the Russians. The refugee crisis is about to get 10x worse.callen said:Jason your not answering my question.

Good chance he will be in power. He must have given total puppet-state control to Russia in a last chance bid to save his ass.callen said:Wonder odds of Assad being in power in five years. 80%?
I'm interested to see if Putin decides to up the ante and cross into Iraq.

Although Trump and Cruz advocate carpet bombing ISIS, international law considers it a war crime in civilian areas.Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0

...and cluster bombs are illegal as well. The US and their allies have used them in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya, Gaza, etc etc....lets not focus too much on russia here...send all these fuckers to the hague.
The situation is so fucked in Syria. It's a complete joke watching all these countries claim to be fighting ISIS when the only true fights are over Assad retaining power or being ousted, and if he is ousted - which power control the puppet government in which carved up Syrian territory. I've been saying for years that the end goal of the west is balkanization of Syria, with the oilfields and pipeline routes in the north controlled by a Kurd puppet (Ergodan be damned), and the jihadis getting a (resource poor) state to run, from which they can work (with their western/sunni backers) to spread their influence into the former Soviet muslim states south of Russia, and into Shia Iran. It's amazing to me that the media narrative of R2P has any legs left at all, given how convoluted it's become to try to convince us which groups we're supporting. It's always been convoluted, but with Russia's entry and claims to fight terrorists, how can anyone believe that any of the involved parties are stating their true intentions thru the media?
The troops massing on the Turkish and Saudi borders are Plan B for western powers since Russia has thrown a wrench into the simple 'foreign fighters force regime change' plan. If Turkey or the Saudis send in ground troops, or try to enforce a no-fly in Syria, we could find ourselves on the brink of some really serious shit. Would the US back a NATO partner to the point of direct confrontation with Russia?
