    Hobbes,That must be the Beach by my house.If you notice the sand bar is so wide now.It really lets the current push and blast thru with little restance.It was much tighter and better structured back in the day.You could really feel the pull when when trying to navigate thru.I fear many of seaman have been lost due to such loose and fast currents.
    Good news is ,with a little work the sandbar can be closed a bit to allow for a more consistant ebb and flow of the current.This of course allows the outflow from the head of this current to really distribute itself all over the outlying areas.But as you know this then makes the middle part or as you show in the diagram the neck,to reduce in size short term until the tide is right to bring flow back to full strength.
    It really is quite something to see.mother nature at her finest.

    They are on the breakwater in Victoria, BC.
    I lived 1 block away from there for 12 yrs. Popular with locals and tourists.
    Walked near daily. 45min brisk peaceful walk and has a quaint cafe at the end called Ogden point Cafe.

    Boys,apparently you are not preparing properly for a bout with the current.Some stretches,some breathing techniques also help battle the beastly current.Remember,never fight the current. flow toward it ,let it suck you in.then at last minute when you think you can take no more,break free by heading Parralel to the Current.Basic survival techniques.
    That kind of work out will require a snack when the fight is over
