I don't think so. I have seen people complaining about it being mastered too loudly, but either my ears are too unsophisticated to notice, or I simply like the album that way (or they're audiophiles overreacting, lol), because I think it sounds good. I spin this one all the time and enjoy the fuck out of it. :) I don't have to crank this album (but I do have to turn Lightning Bolt up quite a bit), so I don't know wtf is wrong with yours, especially since some think it's mastered too loud, not too soft, like what you're saying..... You sure it's real??

Does the same thing happen with other records? Might be a system error.

Except me, lol. I mean, PJ doesn't care much about sound quality on their records anyway - not since Binaural - but still, I think it's fine.

But it being too quiet is not a complaint I have ever seen about this album. That's the weird part I think.

Dude describe your audio set up. If stuff is too quiet you might need a preamp between your TT & receiver.

beringer pre-amp............my setup is ok ..........other records play fisne.......just the Avocdo is not as loud
  • I've also been wondering why so many people complain about the sound of s/t. Of course, it's nothing mind-blowing, but my original sounds just fine and I enjoy it way more than the CD.

wasn't mastered for vinyl/analog like Lightning Bolt was. should not be quiet. it is brickwalled pretty bad but doesn't sound any worse than any latter day PJ release. agree with PJ_Soul about Lightning Bolt though. it was mastered for analogue but was done really shitty. that one you have to crank.

The mastering was brickwalled to death. The vinyl pressing starts out with an automatic disadvantage just based on that.

The only good sounding PJ albums i have are the original Ten and Yield. Im sure the others pre-2000 sound fine as well. Everything after is pretty bad.

    My god!

Maybe the straight cloudy line on the record makes it quieter???

But seriously OP, you have several threads asking questions about the same record (regarding issues that are trivial at best). Please keep it all in one thread.

vinyl should sound much quieter than a CD. perhaps you are used to hearing ST on CD and your ears haven't adjusted to your quieter vinyl ST.

Binaural is their best sounding record by far IMO. And I don't think any of the originals sound BAD until you get to Backspacer, which sounds really harsh, and LB, which is too quiet.
What sounds BAD are the reissues of their first 3 albums.

That is weird. I have heard from others who found they have to crank LB up too.... Now I'm starting to think there really is something wrong with your TT or something.
