This was a good thread about coffee.
The practices of how the bean gets to your cup should be an AMT thread.

    Sorry OP

whatever its worth, these makers these days seem to be too complicated .Tried and true basic maker is the way to go. as was said above, if it heats the water to the desired temp to brew , what more do you need?

that said Fiance found one a couple years ago at a regional grocer that was on clearance, cuisanart basket filter with no carafe. internal reservoir.
    like this http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Cuisinart-DCC-2000-Coffee-on-Demand-12-cup-Coffeemaker/4216810/product.html?refccid=6GBPDFG52C2JQX2IBUXUZ4664U&searchidx=21 .

    $40 or something like that.

Sorry! I just wanted to give Rob some shit.

Look, I'm a serious coffee drinker and I happen to love watching birds, but even I find it kind of funny that there's something called "bird friendly" coffee.

I was gonna ask, Henry and Heidi May what? =)

Thank you for this, B. His wife seems like an ass-kicker (not to mention him, himself).

Love how not only PJ but coffee unites some of us.

From an animal call Asian palm civet
    image
Kopi Luwak is coffee prepared using coffee beans that have been subjected to ingestion and fermentation in the gastrointestinal tract of the Asian palm civet, which is called luwak in Indonesia. Caffeine content in both Arabica and Robusta luwak coffee is lower than in unfermented coffee. Large deformation mechanical rheology testing revealed that civet coffee beans are harder and more brittle in nature than their control counterparts indicating that digestive juices enter into the beans and modify the micro-structural properties of these beans. Proteolytic enzymes cause substantial breakdown of storage proteins.

Kopi Luwak is traditionally made from the faeces of wild civets, however, due to it becoming a trendy drink, civets are being increasingly captured from the wild and fed coffee beans to mass-produce this blend. Many of these civets are housed in battery cage systems which have been criticised on animal welfare grounds. The impact of the demand for this fashionable coffee on wild civet populations is yet unknown but may constitute a significant threat. (from Wikipedia)

So those poor little guys are force-fed coffee beans? I wonder if they get any sleep at all. Hope they at least get biscotti, or maybe an amaretti.

I love coffee too, and I have yet to find American coffee that is affordable and tastes good. My family regularly sends me care packages with German coffe. If I'm out, I buy it from Amazon. I use a regular $50 bucks coffee machine that does not need a paper filter because it has a mesh filter in there that I can take out for dumping the old coffee. I love a machine with a thermo container for the coffee, and this one has it.
In Germany, I inherited my grandparents' machine that was too complicated for my grandpa. You put beans and water in there and it ground them fresh for every cup. I loved it. I would not be able to afford something like this and it did not make the move to the US. I find Keurigs interesting but I would not get one. I guess I like a little work for my coffee, and I hate the waste. If the coffee is good, a simple machine can do wonders, in my opinion. If you are interested, look for Jacob's Krönung on Amazon, that is my to go to. It is comparable to Dunking Donuts Medium Roast.

Longueuil, should we ever meet, I'll be buying you a drink!

That is a beautiful animal, and I love how the brows, eyes and nose are so close to the ones we actually live with.

Mr. Coffee here too Hedo, still working.

But, big ?, where is this video from? Love Strangest Tribe, but don't recall seeing Ed sit down singing a song in ages, not without a guitar. And in shorts no less.

How have I never saw this before???

If it's Strangest Tribe, it has to be Oslo last summer since that's the only place it's been performed live. And would presume he's sitting because that was around the time he injured his knee.

I've never seen the video either but have heard in on sirius radio many times.
