Is there any reason why, "Daddy" has been changed to "Father" in live versions of Alive and Jeremy?

Listening to bootlegs from over the years I've always wondered why Ed changed the original lyric of "Daddy" in Alive and Jeremy to "Father". Ed has to know he has made the lyrical change. Does anyone know the reason or can speculate? Maybe he thought father sounded like a more grown up/mature lyric than "daddy"? Not sure, but feel free to throw your hat in the ring.
I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell.

    I would say about 90-95% of the time it's father instead of the original daddy. It has to be the most commonly switched lyric when compared to a studio recording.

    I always felt that this change occurred around the time he started having children of his own, I feel as though maybe the term today became more personal to him. All that is 100% guessing on my part though.

    I've heard this explanation/speculation quite a bit. Makes sense to me.

    Would definitely be an interesting to hear Ed's answer to this question.

    Any man can be a "Father" but not all can be "Dads." Just meaning that so many men father children but are not dads to theri children or maybe abuse their children etc. The men in Jeremy and Alive are fathers not dads.

    I like "daddy" way more personally. I wish he hadn't changed it. "Father" just feels a bit awkward and it always irks me slightly. All of his personal reasons aside, I think it hurts the flow of the songs.

    Me too. I didn't read much into other than it sounding more formal and mature for a 30 year old to sing.

    I m a father and dad of five. No offense but this makes zero sense.
    Ed has interchanged dad and father for years.

    I think it changed around 96 when the band was dismantling its popularity. New Jeremy appeared in 1995 along with the ticketmaster disaster. It might be tied to that mentality of "challenging the listener". Who knows though--just a theory.

    I think he changed it when his voice started to change. I think its a vocal phrasing thing.
