Very smart!! For the first part let them sniff it, and keep it in places they normally hang out. Then, start oracticing having them 'give space' away from the blanket. This helps them realize that scent means respect. Then when you bring baby home, enforce the give space rule as needed. Believe it or not, this will instantly engage their protective reflex. Another trick is to record the baby's cries on your phone, and play that for them, before baby comes home, so that they are familiar with that sound. If you play it and they get really excited, set the phone to repeat the sound while you correct the dogs. If they can't hear it without running around whining, make themrgambs said:We have 2 doggies, but we are still at the hospital. We leave today. Lie on their sides, and make them stay there.. This is a vulnerable position so
They may argue a little with you. But keep at it til they can lie quietly and cally while listening to that sound. Then add the baby blanket. I usually wrap the phone in repeat, IN the blanket so the dogs out together that that scent will represent that noise.. But I honestly think your doggies will be just fine. Boundaries are an amazing thing in a dog's world.. The baby's room should be off limits, as should play pen areas. After the dogs show calm natures around the baby, then feel free to allow them to freely roam the house again! Again I think you guys will be fine.
When does little Simon get to come home?0 -
Ok Duh! I just read the answer to my question! Lol0

They are good dogs, one is a lazy bum and the other is the protector. They have been given the shirt to sniff and then made to sit and sniff again, then treats if they are good and precise, so I will keep up with that and the space claiming as well. I don't anticipate problems, but they are under suspicion for awhile until they prove themselves lol
Mama misses them, and we do not think our love for them has diminished at all, which I had heard of people saying.Monkey Driven, Call this Living?0 -
WH is our resident Cesar Milan!
I bet they'll adore him...and there's nothing like growing up with animals; it teaches and brings so much.

I know!! How cute that will be! Just remember Gambs, the dogs can smell the baby the second you open the car door, regardless of their location. This includes behind closed doors. So they don't need to jump up to smell him. I say this because there will be a mixture of excitement brought on between you two returning home, and a heightened scent arising from the baby himself. So allow them to sniff while standing next to you, with n jumping up on you, or your wife. When you have the baby in your arms, the dogs have to give space, it is a respect issue. Your doggies don't want to hurt the little guy but they often don't realize that their excitement can do just that. Can't wait to see more pics!hedonist said:WH is our resident Cesar Milan!

We're saying good-bye to the Integra today (hopefully, CarMax gives us a decent deal).
A bit reminiscent of the 20-years-from-now thread, this takes me back to the era of getting her, more than 18 years ago. All that was happening at that time, the sweet and the awful. Didn't even know my husband existed!
I was in my 30's then, and now year 50 is on the horizon (welcomed, too; had no idea I'd be so grateful for that).
I don't know...on the one hand it makes me sad to bid farewell yet on the other, it's time. And we have a new beauty.
(Jesus - all of this over a fucking car)

Listened to some of this last evening and liked (plus the blue hue adds another layer to the visual). Will definitely revisit this. Thank you!0

Congrats rgambs! I've been a new father to a little boy now for 6.5 months....it's crazy how much your life and priorities change once they arrive.0

Congrats to you as well Dig.0

Yessir congrats! My life has certainly changed, but perhaps not as much as I expected. My priorities haven't changed much, instead of endeavoring to experience life at it's fullest, I now do the same but with the addition of making his life full and having him around to share our fullness.dignin said:Congrats rgambs!
