Started this yesterday on your suggestion. I really like it and I just barely got into it. I know I am going to be busy with visitors all weekend, which is great (because I love the people visiting) but bad (because I want to read!) at the same time.Enkidu said:

That's a total bummer...I can't believe it, what a bogus rip off!oftenreading said:
But not in Canada apparently. Here we get to pay $79 and get free 2 day shipping; that is, if you happen to live some place that gets 2 days shipping (like a major city), otherwise you get 3 or 4 day shipping. Plus we also get....nothing else. No kindle library, no streaming content. Zippo. So I'm not buying it.PJSiren said:
If you belong to amazon prime, you get one book a month from the library...pretty much any book that's on amazon...there may be some exceptions, and then there is for 10$ a month additional(to the prime membership which is paid yearly), you can get unlimited books from the library...RKCNDY said:
how does the amazon library work?PJSiren said:
I get a lot of my ebooks for free on promotion from the authors through book bub, they're trying to get their name out there...and I also use the amazon library a lot and exchange books with my mom...I've had my kindle since Xmas and have not bought a single book yet...now not all the books I've gotten for free have been winners, but a good deal of them have been excellent books! Especially the Hetta Coffey series by Jinx Schwarz.RKCNDY said:
this is me too...the reason being that e-books cost maybe $2 less than their physical counterpart...you cannot convince me that the paper, printing, binding and shipping of a physical book from publisher to distribution destination (bookstore or Amazon) costs less than $2.F Me In The Brain said:
I don't like ebooks but I like people reading and don't care how they choose to read.
I joined a bookclub...mainly to meet more people. Hope I get my book in time to read it before the next meeting.
i did check out kindle paperwhite (I think that's what its called), looks cool...still cannot feel that I can justify the purchase of a kindle though.
Amazon prime is really a good deal if you use amazon a lot, or if you would use the kindle a lot...it's 99$ a year...I think your first year might be 79$....or it used to be...you get free 2 day shipping on any orders that are prime, you get to watch prime TV shows and movies, and you get to listen to prime music for free, and you get to use the amazong library...Music is my Religion and Pearl Jam, my Savior!

You should, I can't imagine it woul;d be too difficult to switch it over or just add the account, I have two account on my kindle as my husband has our prime under his name, and so I have a Mandy side to my kindle and a Jason side to my kindle whch is prime...ldent42 said:
I made a new Amazon account when I signed up for prime cuz in order to get the student discount you have to use your student email - but I have my kindle still assigned to my old, non-prime account. So stupid.PJSiren said:

Finding Ultra by Rich Roll. Very inspirational biography about beating addiction and finding a way to living true and authentic with purpose and becoming one of the top endurance athletes. He's a very inspirational guy. Love his podcast too. Can hardly put this book down.5/3/92 Omaha, NE

Just finished The Mechanical by Ian Tregillis. An interesting alternate history that assumes the Dutch developed advanced automata that allowed them to dominate the Western world, rather than the British. Some good musings on the nature of sentience and free will.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0

I suppose I should start my book since I joined a book club...I have to finish it by next Saturday, and this weekend is jam packed.
Fuck...it's like 400 pages. Mr. RK never shuts up when I'm trying to do something that takes concentration...cross stitch, crochet, reading...if I'm playing on the internet he doesn't say anything. Grrrrrr.....The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

I just finished this - it's really great. But really really hard to read. I just did a blog post about it too if you'd like more detail. Not a book to read before you go to sleep at night.
