I knew the story and had the book in my pile for a long time. Now that the movie is out for home viewing I made sure to bring the book to the top of the pile before I watch the flick.
Halfway through and love it. Makes me alternately proud, angry, sad, happy...quite something.

Sorry to link to my blog again, but I just posted this today. The book I just finished is called Wonder of Wonders by Alisa Solomon and it's a historical history of Fiddler on the Roof and yes, I know that sounds awful, but the book is incredible. It's all about Yiddish history and theater - lots of stuff I didn't know anything about. Check out my blog post or go to Amazon, you'll see the rave reviews.

Did you (ahem) download this for free from BookBub? Because I saw it offered just a few days ago (says I hesitantly, knowing the anti-ebook sentiment on this board).

I have no anti-ebook sentiment. I never heard of that site before so I just checked it out. It's a nice idea but I wish there was more options for sorting. And I'd really love to know what exactly "women's fiction" is.

Did score an Ursula LeGuin for $2 though so w00t!

I've found some great books for free, or close to it. Of course, there are a lot of dogs too, and a lot of the featured books seem to really be "romance" even if they aren't calling it that.

Yes I did...what's wrong with E-books? Someone has a problem with what I'm reading they can kiss my ass....

P.S. That's not directed at you...just a generalization...if someone really has a problem with the fact that I read ebooks, then that's how I feel....

I love my Kindle; however, there are a few luddites on the board who are firmly against  . Personally, I'm all for people reading, whatever the format.

I don't like ebooks but I like people reading and don't care how they choose to read.

this is me too...the reason being that e-books cost maybe $2 less than their physical counterpart...you cannot convince me that the paper, printing, binding and shipping of a physical book from publisher to distribution destination (bookstore or Amazon) costs less than $2.

I joined a bookclub...mainly to meet more people. Hope I get my book in time to read it before the next meeting.

I get a lot of my ebooks for free on promotion from the authors through book bub, they're trying to get their name out there...and I also use the amazon library a lot and exchange books with my mom...I've had my kindle since Xmas and have not bought a single book yet...now not all the books I've gotten for free have been winners, but a good deal of them have been excellent books! Especially the Hetta Coffey series by Jinx Schwarz.

how does the amazon library work?

i did check out kindle paperwhite (I think that's what its called), looks cool...still cannot feel that I can justify the purchase of a kindle though.

If you belong to amazon prime, you get one book a month from the library...pretty much any book that's on amazon...there may be some exceptions, and then there is for 10$ a month additional(to the prime membership which is paid yearly), you can get unlimited books from the library...

Amazon prime is really a good deal if you use amazon a lot, or if you would use the kindle a lot...it's 99$ a year...I think your first year might be 79$....or it used to be...you get free 2 day shipping on any orders that are prime, you get to watch prime TV shows and movies, and you get to listen to prime music for free, and you get to use the amazong library...

I made a new Amazon account when I signed up for prime cuz in order to get the student discount you have to use your student email - but I have my kindle still assigned to my old, non-prime account. So stupid.
I'm reading physical bonds at the moment but I should really sort that out.

But not in Canada apparently. Here we get to pay $79 and get free 2 day shipping; that is, if you happen to live some place that gets 2 days shipping (like a major city), otherwise you get 3 or 4 day shipping. Plus we also get....nothing else. No kindle library, no streaming content. Zippo. So I'm not buying it.
