Travel a long way for a bad show?

Options
Have you ever traveled a long way for a Pearl Jam show and that show just didn't live up to expectations? Maybe a shorter setlist, or not enough rarities or maybe something else afoot?

Where'd you come from, date/location of the show and other details?

Well i traveled by plane to Missoula, and got the flu basically while I was in the air heading there. So that sucked. Still went to the show of course, and it was really great (though that probably would have been longer had Eddie not been sick himself)... but it and the whole trip would have been much better if I hadn't felt so horrible the whole time!

And then the next show was Wrigley, which was even farther away, and, well.... it was amazing, but we all know it would have been even better without that storm delay, even if it did make it an incredibly memorable and unusual scene, being a show in the dead of night at Wrigley field. Which was pretty amazing. But also, the heat. My god, the heat! I'm really not good in that kind of weather.

BUT I regret nothing!! The hardships were still well worth it. :)

st. louis last year....not a bad show...just a good show. didn't really warrant the round trip air line tickets from nyc along with hotel. but it was a weekend away from the kids.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me......

Same thought on saint Louis. Wasn't great. I traveled from Richmond but fortunately my brother lives in stl and he went with me, so that was good.

I had a heart attack at a show... Atlanta in 12. Literally. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one that can claim that. I didn't leave though. Stood the whole time while having it. 12 hours. Pretty stupid.

I had a similar thought about st Louis last year, again not that it was a bad show, just that it wasn't spectacularly special. though I could say the same about Wrigley considering the heat and rain and the debacle getting back to the hotel. Then again there's the scalp sunburn I got at BDO last year. Oh and the obnoxious teenage doushebags making fun of me for freaking out at the sight of bats at Atlanta '12 (cuz bats flying around a park in the middle of the city at dusk is such a NORMAL thing.... Fucking south)
But no... I don't think I've ever had a bad show experience.

We're all spoiled to start, so let's get that out of the way. The energy was good. The crowd was really good. I just thought the set was okay. And then after what came out of moline and Milwaukee, it was like.. doh! There a few nice gems though.

Yeah, and we were smoking blunts so that didn't help. When I got home to Richmond the next day, my wife dragged me to the hospital. She wasn't at the show, so she was not amused. The "episode" actually started at the Foos the night before, so it was a 24 deal. Damn heredity. Makes for a good story though.

Oh wow...heart attack at a show. I'm sure we've all joked about having one when the rarities are brought out or something like 2-3 of them in a row, but wow...I'm glad you're still alive. It's certainly not the smartest decision to ignore the heart attack, but since you lived through it, it makes for one heck of a story.

Thinking back on it, there was a story, maybe here, maybe elsewhere, where someone was at an outdoor show. It was raining and they were up near the front. Some chaos ensued and security pulled them over the rail, into the buffer zone. That show was in Europe 15 years ago this summer.

Bats in a park are normal up north, too. (Sorry, my husband is a park naturalist.) They were there enjoying eating all of the bugs to keep you from being eaten alive. See, it was actually a positive! Just look at it this way, they didn't play RATS, but you got BATS! :)

Travelled overnight in 03 to Sydney & had my first ever 10 club tickets & the show was a bit flat & that had a lot to do with the crowd which was not in to it & especially the Riot Act songs. You can definitely tell on the boot that it wasn't a great show but hey any PJ show is still better than most. Went to the second show & it was much better.

The VFC tour. I am from New England, but moved to Virginia Beach for a year. Flew home to see the second night of the VFC at the Garden in Boston. Pretty flat show.. Poor sound mix... To many covers. Got to see my family though.

Seriously? I the middle of the city? That's awful. I've never seen it and I'm at summerstage at LEAST once a year.

I concur with the bats in a park thing. Living right across from a park and the bats that fly overhead just before sunset in the summer months...aye carumba!

Yeah, those 03 Australia/Japan shows are a bit famous for the lackluster crowds. I heard that much of the Japanese audience just sat there....From what I heard, this is part of the reason why the band didn't go back there for so long. It just isn't a money-maker for them.

Yeah, the whole VFC thing was a whole separate beast entirely. Occasionally, they'll play the boots on SiriusXM and I don't know if those are all audience recordings or what, but they just sound like a big steaming pile of ick, compared to everything else...maybe that's why I'm not a big fan of audience recordings. (Some people swear by audience recordings...just not my thing.)
