Is SIRIUS phasing out PJ Radio?

hsohihsohi Posts: 1,033
Every time I tune in now the channel seems to be playing The Who, Neil Young, The Band, Led Zepplin, White Stripes, Dave Matthews Band...and so on on a much more frequent basis. In the past it was the odd time you heard the impact tracks/bands but now it's like every other song.

I thought i was on a different channel today when I heard Jack White come on. Nope, channel 22. Then two PJ songs later, DMB. If I wanted to hear DMB, as much as I like them, I would PLAY SOME DMB!

    This sucks!

But I could never get enough Neil Young...

I've noticed the same thing recently. If I wanted to hear all those other artists I'd switch to another station.
Maybe Rob can pass our complaint along?
I escaped it...a life wasted...I'm never going back again

I'm new to ch 22 I didn't know any better. I'm not sure I mind lol cuz I seem to always catch even flow  multiple times a day - I do agree pj has an amazing catalog that should get rotated and for god sakes how many live shows to choose from! Makes me smile
Oh please let it rain today.

Brandy Carlisle was playing today, I don't even know who that is, and immediately thought that the station may be in jeopardy.

That said, I always wondered why they play limited studio tracks and so many boots.

Is the band slowinging down to the point they want to maybe shut down the station?

yeah if you get Pearl Jam radio, I hope you like Even Flow and Jeremy, because you will get a steady dose of both, like they are trying to appeal to all those bandwagon MTV fans who lost interest once the band stopped doing videos and media, I thought it was good we lost all those people, I appreciate that most Pearl Jam fans know the entire catalog and we can discuss any song off Riot Act, and most everyone knows what the fuck we are talking about, I really don't want to lose that, it is pretty special, so I much prefer Sad followed by I Am Mine then Off He Goes, I think there are enough people out there that can dig on that because their entire catalog is quality shit

I hope so. Put an end to those Sirius-only contests that you have to pay above and beyond your 10C fees to participate in.

I agree. Got a new car in December and our free trial is almost over. In January and Feb, channel 22 was awesome and i was hooked. The last week or so, not so much and i'm not renewing

Yeah same here -- every time I'd get in the car it was either another band or a PJ song followed by another band. Definitely kills the benefit of an-all PJ channel... hope they get back to all PJ again (or at least having impact tracks like once an hour as it was before).

I'm the guy that loves hearing other bands on the channel. I got some Soundgarden and White Stripes this week. I cranked it up a little louder.

I'm hoping 'the Rob' is on vacation and his replacement doesn't know what the station is supposed to sound like???

Fuck that. I listen to channel 22 for one reason. The occasional SG or Pink Floyd or Zepplain song was good. But it's called PJ radio. That's what I want to hear. I also like the 90's station....

Of course, I don't pay for Sirius. I just use the 30 day free trials.
  • I thought something was weird. Channel 22 is on non stop here. I thought it was pearl jam radio but lately I hear more "other" music than pj. I don't mind and enjoy some random fugazi or young, but I only have xm for one reason. PJ radio.

Whats different about it? I've always heard PJ related bands on there for the 2 yrs ive had it. If anything ive noticed more rare PJ stuff theyve been playing lately.

What's different is that every other song is now non PJ.

Not sure how Brandy Carlisle or the Black Keys are influencing PJ. What's next Tupac?

Soon after each non PJ song they will be placing ads like "Want more Melloncamp tune into the 80s" or "Want more N.W.A tune into the classic hip hop channel".

I've personally never been a fan of the impact tracks because I turn on PJ radio for PJ... if I wanted to listen to other bands I'd seek them out. That said, I get why they put them in every once in a while so I never had a problem with that.

I find myself turning Sirius off more and more and going to either a CD, sports radio or plugging my phone in now with the radio seemingly going towards 50/50 PJ to non-PJ. And that's OK.. I just wish they'd get back to how its been since it started.

What if... follow me now... this is a shift in media for pearl jam and are phashing out pj radio... they like to keep things in house, so maybe they will be creating a premium 10c membership that will include open access to "the vault" for streaming boots, studio, video, exclusive content, etc, etc...

That would be a game changer like the 2000 bootleg series

On a related note, I listen via TuneIn Radio and they still have channel however after a recent update, track data is no longer listed unless they are playing something from an album. Dissapointing....

I just don't get the fascination with listening to SiriusXM radio in the first place.
I had a free subscription when I bought my new car and never listened to it.
With the voice command systems in most new cars,
using my iPod, I can tell my sound system what song, artist, album, or playlist I want to hear.
And I don't have a monthly subscription to pay either!!
NOW if they used SiriusXM to broadcast PJ shows LIVE...
then it would be worth the price.
Until that day comes, I'll just listen to what I want to hear, when I want to hear it!!

If they do I will just cancel. I really do enjoy it, but it's the only reason I have Sirius. It's not that expensive if you threaten to cancel every time your promotional rate is about to run out, but if I am really interested in one thing and it goes away, I will keep my 5 or 6 bucks a month or whatever I pay. I only have it in one car, the car I don't drive as often, and in my car I just listen to boots and sports talk, so I can survive with out it.
words seem so out of place.

I've done the same.... called to cancel 6 years running and each time I get the 'we can extend your promotional rate' response. I also keep the channel primarily for Pearl Jam radio. I noticed there was abnormally high non-PJ content yesterday..... I'll likely cancel my membership if the PJ Radio Channel isn't really a PJ Radio channel.

On another note..... I really Like the Google Play Music All Access service when paired with Sonos speakers ...
    Enjoy the music

Here is a rundown from this morning...

    Imagine
    Impact Track: Clash/Clampdown
    Daughter
    Faithfull
    Immortality
    Crazy Mary
    Education
    Impact Track: REM/Catapult
    Other Side
    Black Keys/Gold on the Ceiling
    Mind your Manners
    Jeremy
    Rolling Stones/Hand of Fate
    Habit
    White Stripes/My Doorbell
    Glorified G
    Once

What bothers me the most about the station is how they will play live tracks with horrible sound mixes.

Just listened to it on 3 hour drive from cabin. Basically every 4th song was a different artist than Pearl Jam. Pretty disappointing as channel 22 is only reason we have Sirius radio.....
