I just don't get the fascination with listening to SiriusXM radio in the first place.
I had a free subscription when I bought my new car and never listened to it.
With the voice command systems in most new cars,
using my iPod, I can tell my sound system what song, artist, album, or playlist I want to hear.
And I don't have a monthly subscription to pay either!!
NOW if they used SiriusXM to broadcast PJ shows LIVE...
then it would be worth the price.
Until that day comes, I'll just listen to what I want to hear, when I want to hear it!!

I like XM because I don't want to use my Ipod or Iphone. I can travel anywhere in the US or Canada and get the same stations digitally clear. I like talk/news radio so I don't just listen to music in the car.

I actually haven't listened to channel 22 in a while. Have pretty much moved to the 80s and the 90s channels, I guess I just need variety.

I've been a fan since 1995. I can't imagine listening to Pearl Jam only like some do today. XM22 has never been a preset in my car. I'm still here for one thing: the tours.

Agree with these two statements. I like listening to PJ Radio when there's a show on that catches my ear, but other than that I'm not interested. When I have listened to this station I find the prorgramming to be really sloppy; same live versions of songs over and over again and they'll play a studio cut and then a live version of the same song four or five songs later.

Anyways, lots of other worthwhile stations people are missing out on with satellite radio.

Am I the only one with the app? I just set that thing for "no friends/family" and I'm good.

I was wondering if that would work for my car radio - do you know?

I escaped it...a life wasted...I'm never going back again
  • I don't know if it is just my car (later model with Sirius/Stereo/Navigation built into dashboard) but I noticed yesterday that my preset of Channel 22 PJRadio was somehow reset to a "Sirius Preview" channel.
My other presets around there (EStreetRadio and GratefulDead) were still intact.
Fortunately I could just scroll one or two stations either way to get to Ch.22 and reset while driving.

I have a long commute, SiriusXM is part of my arsenal, along with AM, FM, CDs, Ipod, downloaded/streaming music on my phone, DVD, podcasts, hard drive in the car, music the kids put on usb, etc. It good to have options, and for me, Sirius still has a lot of unique content.

As to the topic at hand...having Impact Tracks more than twice an hour sucks. If this is the way they're phasing the channel out, that doubly sucks.

Is this where the show list goes?

    11-26-91 / 8-2-92 / 3-15-94 / 7-9-95 / 7-11-95 / 8-29-98 / 9-1-00 / 10-25-03
    10-23-04 / 10-22-06 / 10-9-09 / 10-23-10 / 10-3-12 / 7-9-13 / 10-21-13
    11-24-13 / 11-26-13 / 10-17-14 / 10-20-14 / 10-25-14 / 4-8-16 / 4-9-16
     4-28-16 / 4-29-16 / 8-20-16 / 8-22-16 / 8-10-18 / 8-18-18 / 8-20-18

If they are phasing it out then what are they phasing it to? If it isn't PJ radio are you saying it will be a station that plays Brandy Carlisle and The Clash? That wouldn't make sense for a station. They are probably just playing more impact tracks. It would seem if they wanted PJ radio to go they would shut it down.

Perhaps bands buy into some sort of contract with Sirius, they pay 'X' amount of money for their own channel for say 5 years. Then decide at the end of said contract if they want to extend or not. Or maybe Sirius buys rights to a band's songs and pays the band to play their catalog for a certain period of time. I dunno...
How long has PJ been on Sirius? Maybe they aren't getting enough listeners for channel 22. I cancelled long ago, they wouldn't let me keep the promotional rate. I really only listened to PJ and Octane anyway.

I'm sure they're getting listeners. Wasn't this supposed to be a 6 month station? Maybe a year, I don't remember because it's been on for 6 years.

I love Sirius. Gotten into so many bands because of Sirius U and AltNation. I honestly dont play PJ's channel very much.

Love Sirius/XM w/ favo channels being The Spectrum, Insight, and Backspin. PJ, Grateful Dead and Classic Vinyl round out the second wave. I certainly hope they keep Channel 22 dedicated to Pearl Jam and as part of the station keep playing the impact tracks. Variety is the spice of life....as much as I like em, no way can I listen to Pearl Jam 24/7.

Here is a rundown from this morning...

    Imagine
    Impact Track: Clash/Clampdown
    Daughter
    Faithfull
    Immortality
    Crazy Mary
    Education
    Impact Track: REM/Catapult
    Other Side
    Black Keys/Gold on the Ceiling
    Mind your Manners
    Jeremy
    Rolling Stones/Hand of Fate
    Habit
    White Stripes/My Doorbell
    Glorified G
    Once

What bothers me the most about the station is how they will play live tracks with horrible sound mixes.

Thought the "horrible sound mixes" were the tracks pre-2000 that maybe weren't mixed/released/recorded on great equipment. I like those rare tracks, but have never listened on Sirius... only the little window on the top of this page. If they're playing a bunch of random stuff that kinda sucks. But, my ipod is my "Pearl Jam Radio." 1800 PJ songs on that baby and a few dozen complete shows. :)

Do they still play the Wishlists? I recorded one a year ago and never heard about it. Was just thinking about that.

Most days it seems like Evenflow and Indifference are the only two songs Pearl Jam has recorded. Like clockwork, every morning on the way to work when I first turn on the radio, it's Evenflow. And on the way home way, it's Indifference.

Am I the only one that finds their live recordings unlistenable for the most part? The music is great, but I find that for soundboard recordings, the quality is far inferior to what other "live" bands put out.

Impact tracks are great, but since when was PJ impacted by the Black Keys and DMB?? Sounds like Channel 22 is just turning into kind of an alt-rock/pop station.

There used to be an option online called "MysiriusXM" that you could adjust what songs you were hearing to your own subscription.
I phased out a lot of the "influence" stuff. It appears that its gone.
  • I find the sound quality to be awful in my car. FM radio beats it. Have a good sounding car stereo and if I play a boot on my phone or cd player, it blows away the same concert broadcast on sirius.

I think sound quality is always going to be better on a CD compared to Sirius as well as FM radio to Sirius. I could be wrong, but I've heard Sirius on a few different rental cars and on each one was not as clean as FM/CD. I think that's just the nature of the beast with satellite radio?

how does XM monitor their ratings, station by station? If we all change the station everytime PJ is not played, will they know?

And the Wishlist segment has gotten worse and worse over the past year. Sometimes the fan doesnt even introduce the songs. Whats the point!?!?

Don't mind the impact tracks, just a lot of them lately. Seems like this happened last year at some point then kind of mellowed out.

They've started friends & contemporaries tracks so that's why we're hearing Black Keys, Jack White, KOL, etc. Again, don't mind, but not so often.

I would like the boys to share who they're listening to. Jeff has done it. Mike, too, maybe. Mike could play some of the artists on his record label.
