Sao Paulo vs. Rio

I need a little help from some Brazilian friends. I can only go to one show. I'm leaning toward Rio because of the beach and the Maracana, but I've heard great things about SP as well.
I'm sure both shows will be amazing, and the cost to get down there is about the same for both cities.
Just need a little advice. I've never been to your great country.

    Rio for me. NO QUESTION!!!
    I am from Rio, live close to Sao Paulo. I love Sao Paulo. Have been to all PJ concerts in both Sao Paulo and Rio. Some facts to help you choose your type of crowd:

    1- Sao Paulo is a more quiet well behaved type of people. They don't sing much, they stand there and stare at the stage.
    2 - Rio is more emotional. They yell, they jump, they dance, they sing, they cry... some people find it annoying. (No way they(we) are as intense as argentinans).
    (All these are beyond the "20 row" or so (I know its GA, just visualize it). From the 20th towards the stage its WILD in both cities).

    Been to Rio, one of my favourite cities in the world. Seeing PJ in the Maracana is a dream, have a blast all of you who can make it!

    My wife and I are serious considering going to Brazil and catching 4 shows...
    I hate reading about all the violence...People being watched and followed...Then mugged...Makes me nervous...Canadian gvnmt urging people not to go..
    A lot of pros/cons to weigh I guess...

    Saw pj in SP for lollapalooza couple years back, but started in Rio for a few days. Rio is hands down the spot I'd go back to. Beaches, landscape, food, people, vibe, sights, chicks, all superior...also much more walkable city than SP

    I have been to both cities... RIO by a long shot.
    Just be careful where you are and who is around you.
    I went to a show in Rio a few years back and showed up early and got out a little early. The crowds are insane (in a good way) but traveling alone you need to move with the crowd.

    Sao Paulo is a HUGE city that is like NYC on steroids (not in a good way) while RIO is like Miami.

    Remember, travel with a group if possible and keep an eye on who is keeping an eye on you.

    Thanks for all the comments and helpful tips. Rio it is!! Found some decent hotel deals right on Copacabana beach. Now, I just need a ticket to the show!!
