BACKSPACER VINYL, SOUND QUALITY?

:thumbup: After reading the odd quote in various threads, I was a little apprehensive about this. After all, I have been waiting a month, but, I finally received my pre-ordered 10C vinyl today in Blighty.
I have to say I'm more than impressed.
I'd like to think I have a reasonable set up with a Rega P3 turntable, NAD Amp, Elac speakers, QED silver anniversary xt bi-wire speaker cable.
Don't know what the fuss was about, the timing, the bass, the mids, the highs, EVs voice in particular.
VERY HAPPY!
Be interested to see what other vinyl lovers think.

    Which NAD amp do you have?

    I'll buy a P3-24 soon and I'm still looking for THE amp to go with it.

    My bs vinyl is at the post office, tomorrow will be a good day!

    Dewie, I do have the 10C vinyl. Like I said, I was interested on others thoughts after seeing a lot of negatives, but honestly, I was pleasantly surprised. I see your a Zeppelin fan. I've got an amazing condition original Physical Graffiti which obviously blows PJ out of the water for sound quality!

    The CD is definitely the best recording. I noticed right away that the 10C vinyl didn't sound as good. I could even hear some occasional distortion. I have a nice setup too. I was surprised. :(

    It sounds exactly like the CD only with the bass and treble rolled off a bit. It was probably mastered from the finished CD. In other words, it's shit.

    Interesting. The only other PJ vinyl record I have is "No Code" and it sounds terrific. :D I will not bother to pursue purchasing any other PJ vinyl titles if the sound quality is not up to par. Is it just the more recent records?

    What other albums sound great or not very good? Whatever list is shortest? I'm assuming "not very good" vinyl recordings...

    Avocado sounds quite a bit better than BS, to my ears. I know they are both brickwalled all to hell, but S/T sound leaps and bounds better.

    No Code is pretty average sounding

    Ten, Vs, Vitalogy, Yield and BInaural all sound really good, imo.

    I know I started this thread off, have to agree that S/T does sound better than BS on further listening.
    Remember the furore over the mastering of Death Magnetic? I don't think we're quite there yet. I'll have to purchase the BS CD now to see how it sounds to me, wasn't going to bother originally.

    "Backspacer" sounds great to my ears.

    I'll be the first to agree that "Self Titled" was sub par, but "Backspacer" is far better in terms of sound.

    This was definately not taken from a digital source. The seperation sounds excellent and the bottom end is much more prounounced than the CD especially on "Just Breathe" and "Gonna See My Friend".

    The CD version of "Speed of Sound" sounds a bit cluttered whereas the seperation of instruments is much clearer on the vinyl.

    Perhaps -although I highly doubt it- there is a difference between the 10Club version and Target version.

    Like I said earlier I purchased mine through 10C as a pre-order. When it finally arrived 2 days ago it was post marked from Germany. Everything else I've ever had from 10C was post marked USA. Something weird going on?

    The mellower stuff on BS sounds great, but the heavier and denser it gets the worse it sounds. Lotsa points where it sounds muffled or distorted.

    I think the brickwalling only really affects Comatose on S/T, where it really messes up most of the rockers on BS.

    I really like the press I have. I got it in the shop for ten dollars a while back. Sounds good to me. Flat and quiet. :)

    I agree with this. As an avid vinyl fan I've found most of the recent PJ vinyl pressings to be lacking.

    Maybe it was pressed more than once? My copy contains the following matrix info:

    Pj vinyl that sounds better than average. Original Vitalogy, Yield, Binaural, Riot Act.
    Original Ten and Vs are good. Stay away from the reissues.

    I have a theory that the people that go craziest for PJ vinyl (overpay) leave them sealed and don't actually spin them

    All their albums sound better on vinyl. Including Backspacer. No Code sounds absolutely phenomenal. I guess it's all opinions but I just don't hear what others have stated in this thread. The CDs do not sound better to me. I do agree some PJ vinyl sounds better than others though.

    Any more, the whole digital vs analog debate cracks me up. If someone says, "Digital is better," I say, "To whom?" If someone says, "To me, digital is better," I say, "Cool. Enjoy."

    Personlly, I very much almost always prefer vinyl (especially 12" 45 RPM- man! great sound!) but if I say that and someone says to me, "Nah man, you're full of shit, digital is better," my first thought is, "What are you doing inside my ears and brain and how the hell did you get in there in the first place? That's an amazing trick. How'd you do that?"

    I don't think it matters what format Backspacer is, it's just a bad album ;)

    I agree that BS sounds shitty, and LB ain't great, namely because it plays really quiet (but cranking the volume solves that. It's better than BS. I don't have any complaints about any other PJ vinyl, unless we're talking reissues, which suck.

    Intersting that people say the reissues sound worse than the originals. What was the point of reissuing them to just sound worse???
