Rob, I Completely agree on Moncada with the draft, Tomas and all these other players coming from South America should have to go into it. I had read a while ago MLB was trying to push for it but a lot of teams fought it hard. All the teams each have these baseball factories in South America where they start taking kids as early as 13. After all that work of building these kids up they don't want other teams to poach their work once they are ready to come to America for the minors. While Moncada and Tomas didn't come from a baseball factory area there is one policy on international players in each region of the world. If you make Cuban players go through the draft you also have to make Dominican players where these factories exist. In a way they are exploiting these kids because only a small handful actually progress to make it to the US. They are sent away from their families to come to these factories.

On another note, how is the Giants man cave doing. Any new cool stuff?

Well, if hockey,i mean HOCKEY!, can have a world-wide draft why can't baseball?

Maybe it will be Boras who tries to file some lawsuit on behalf of North American players? Though, you would think he would've tried by now?

What about Shields to the "Fathers"? Were the Giants trying for him at all?

It doesn't seem like it and 4 years is a totally manageable length.

That said, the Giants have 7 possible starters.....but only one (Bum) we can count on.

ESPN is saying Shields had an offer for 4 at 80 but turned it down to sign with the Padres for a little less. They think it was probably Miami but could have been SF. I don't think it was SF as earlier on in the process Shields liked the Giants a lot but his agent was sticking with the 5 at 115 request so they moved on to Peavy and Vogey. There was a great article a while ago on how Sabean and Evans work in 2 year windows instead of 1 like most teams. Sabean has said winning the world series is a huge drain on a club (all those extra innings on the pitching staff) and the shortened offseason takes its toll the following year. The Giants are setup now where they whole pitching staff other than Madbum and Cain are on short deals giving them more flexibility. Peavy has 2016 on the books but everyone else is off this next offseason. They think Crick and maybe Beaddle (I probably butchered his name) will be ready in 2016 to play in the big leagues. You have Madbum, Cain, Peavy, one of those 2 young kids and then hopefully someone like Price to take a top spot as well.

So in the end the Sheilds deal was reasonable but I'm valuing more having all that cash on the books for Price, Zimmerman or another top line guy with an open spot on the staff next season when they are better recovered from last year.

tired arms and shortened offseasons are good problems to have.

I never thought I would say this about my beloved Giants. Fuck them. I just went online to pick a few spring training games to go to. $35 for lawn. $81 for lower grandstand. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just 2 years ago I was pissed when lawn seats when from $5 to $15 but understood they and the cubs are the top draws so its simple supply and demand. But $35 for a lawn seat is just pure price gouging. I guess I'm going to have to go catch them as the visitor this year most of the games I go to. No more family trip. I'm not paying $150 (just for lawn seats) for a damn spring training game. I can get really good regular season Giants vs Dbags seats for that price for the kids.

agreed....I used to go down there all the time...pre 9-11, you could go pretty much wherever you wanted, go in for BP, etc.....when they sucked, tickets were cheap and you had plenty of room to stretch out.

It seems everyone in Phoenix has upgraded and the cheap, empty stadiums are disappearing.

The cubs have the newest stadium in the Phoenix valley. Its gorgeous. A mini Wrigley built to the specs and dimensions of Wrigley. Lawn seats are 15 to 20 depending on the opponent. The "other newest/greatest' spring training site is the joint one for the dbags and Rockies. Lawn seats are between 10 to 15. All the games are sold out or near sell out for all 3 so demand isn't an issue. The Giants are the Yankees now of the NL. I am not happy about this. I moved here 10 years ago and have always said spring training was by far the coolest thing living here. I used to take my kids to 4 or 5 Giants games when we could go for $20 total. Security would even look the other way when I was sneaking snacks in for the kids to eat. This is fucked up as the Giants killed the family part by doing this. I assume they figure enough people now travel to see the games they can get away with it. Sad things is they probably will and next season will have $100 tickets. I'm calling KNBR tonight and bitching out Mr. T for this even though he has nothing to do with it.

I wish they would've done this in Chicago instead of trying revamp that dump on Clark & Addison. I will bleed blue til I die but for fuck's sake it's time for Wrigley to go. You can gold flake a turd all you want, it's still a damn turd. Plus, moving to a new stadium would've been an even bigger "fuck you" to those asshole rooftop owners.

Went by the Giants minor league complex today and they are super busy. There was moving trucks out front and lots of cars in the lot. Getting excited for another season.

On a side note how sad are the A's. They moved into the Cubs old stadium which was one of the biggest dumps of them all. They now own the worst Regular season stadium and the worst spring training one as well.

And I will not be going to see any games in Scottsdale Stadium this year as my objection to their prices. I will go see the Giants 4 or 5 times like normal but will go tour some stadiums like the Cubs new one I haven't been to yet.

A bucket list item has been completed. I can check that one off now.

In all seriousness all NE people should be happy with me. During SB week I was railing on the annoying ass Seattle fans. People here thought the NE fans were more annoying with that dreadful accent but I disagreed. The Seahawks fans that seemed to forget screaming in the stadium = advantage for you team, screaming while on the sidewalk at nothing = asshole.

You can hate me more now. I just finished planning my first wave of games with some friends at work. The one I am most excited about is this:

    FRI 3/27
White Sox vs Cubs at the Cubs mini Wrigley at 1:05pm.
Giants vs Dodgers at the Dodgers new Stadium at 7:05pm.

What a pair of two games in the same day. With my ban on Scottsdale Stadium this season I'm going to try and hit 4 or 5 stadiums I haven't been to yet. This day alone knocks two off that list.

The cubs have the newest stadium in the Phoenix valley. Its gorgeous. A mini Wrigley built to the specs and dimensions of Wrigley.

I wish they would've done this in Chicago instead of trying revamp that dump on Clark & Addison. I will bleed blue til I die but for fuck's sake it's time for Wrigley to go. You can gold flake a turd all you want, it's still a damn turd. Plus, moving to a new stadium would've been an even bigger "fuck you" to those asshole rooftop owners.
it's not as big a shithole as fenway.
Hey, hey, hey, when was the last time you were in Fenway, Big Fella?
Same year I was at wrigley.....fenway is the shittier.
