the little I have seen of carlin I was not a big fan. it just seems like 60 minutes of complaining. I know he's considered a comic genius, and a huge influence for most comics, but he just doesn't seem to be my bag.

The great thing about Carlin is that he makes you think while you laugh. Watch this:

Hugh, yes on surface it's dirty but mostly the bits make you think so not dirty for dirts sake but yeah shitting in someone's mouth does indeed top in dirty scale. Touché. Not sure if I've seen that bit.

I saw him at Zanies here in Nashville back in 2006. I was crying during his whole set.

I also don't feel it with Carlin. I get it.... it still just doesn't really turn my crank that much.
My fave after Louis CK is Norm MacDonald. Since I haven't seen Louis live, Norm is the best stand up act I've ever seen by a long shot.

it was his bit on pedophiles/sick sexual urges. he wanted to invent something, and that would be he would donate his body after he dies to an organization where people with fucked up sexual urges can go and do whatever they want to a dead body, including "they can shit in my mouth, jerk off using my big toe, whatever is your hearts desire, I want to be the willy wonka for their fucked up urges".

not super dirty, but not Jim Gaffigan either! LOL

Great bit. It's from "Oh my God" if I'm not mistaken, look it up. Great download.

  • I enjoyed it. But, yes, he went off the rails a few times. Still, it was $5 well spent.

I bought and watched his new special last night, Live At The Comedy Store. It was...strange. It was like he was going in a new direction with his comedy. Or that he was testing out new material and made a special out of it.

There's something about a mind that is not only incredibly smart, but also deviant and way off-road.

Fucking hot from the brain-bone to the other-bones.

I'd apply that to Louis, Norton, Hedberg, Hicks, Robin, Miller, and my beloved George.

MacDonald too. "Joe Camel looks like a cock!"
  • I've loved Louis' work for years. The only problem I have with him is that he is the splitting image of me so wherever I go people always think I am him, even at Pearl Jam concerts. I guess he probably has the same problem with people coming up to him and saying "hey aren't you that unforgiven guy from the Pearl Jam forums.
  • Only one mention of Bill Hicks so far and that was just a casual mention? I've got him at #2 all time behind Carlin. Louie at #3 for sure. Never really got Pryor. I've tried. The other one with no mentions so far is Doug Stanhope. Any love for him out there?

I saw an SNL with Norm as the weekend update anchor. I don't think anyone else other than Fallon did that any better. There were times when the audience was dead silent after a joke and I would be cracking up. I thought Norm was/is brilliant.

Carlin, Hicks, Louis CK, Stanhope, Hedberg, David Cross, Chappelle...all classic. Comedians I've gotten into recently are Jim Jeffries, Trevor Noah, and Chris Porter.

I never mention Hicks casually! I just can't help but include him among the cream of the crop.

Gonna check out Stanhope based on your and Vitalogensia's mentions. Love Cross too.

And I was just thinking how Cross is a fan of Tool, has done some work with them. Led me to think of Patton Oswalt, who's done the same. His stand-up is worth watching as well.
