They know him so well that the one store generally has a hold pile for him. We've purchased things from them for years. We were just at the Parma store yesterday!

I love Amazon for vinyl because of the free shipping, which is now a VERY big deal, as shipping costs go up and up. I just can't regularly afford it anymore. So when I can buy vinyl from Amazon.ca and get the free shipping, I do. And they have a massive selection for what are usually the lowest prices (so much lower than record stores), so it all works in my favour.
Discogs.com certainly gives me access to the most hard to find items, and I find that the sellers at discogs are little more on the ball and trustworthy than those on ebay. But I use ebay often enough anyway, for obvious reasons.
As for local record stores, I like Audiopile on Commercial Drive most.... good people (although I would prefer if they have better music knowledge... they have some, but much of the staff are total hipsters, so aren't very helpful a lot of the time unless you're into the same hipster music as them), and fairly decent prices... most of all it's the best location for me.
For accessories in Vancouver, Lotusland is BY FAR the best place to go. They refurbish audio equipment, specializing in TTs and receivers, and they really know their stuff, have great prices and merchandise. Can't go wrong with those guys. They are fantastic. On Alma and 10th in Kits.

I find myself ordering my vinyl from:
amazon.ca
amazon.co.uk
amazon.de
amazon.fr
whatrecords.co.uk
newonvinyl.com
Amazon seems to remove the VAT from their orders and the shipping fees (especially from the UK site) are reasonable, which often makes it cheaper to import vinyl from the UK than buy it domestically. The US dollar has also increased substantially against the CDN$ compared to the Pound/Euro. Most of the time I use Amazon Canada or Amazon UK for my vinyl orders.
My local record store is ditchrecords.com. I buy the odd thing from them but they can be expensive. If their price is within $2 of buying it online I'll buy it from them (or if I'm impatient) but if it's a bigger gap I'll buy it online.
I did find a Canadian website for buying vinyl called:
northernvolume.com but their prices can be steep (as the threshold for free shipping is fairly high).
archambault.com is a bit interesting. Quebec website. Prices are steep. Sometimes around black friday/boxing day they have a 50% off vinyl sale. They're also one of the few remaining websites that doesn't collect British Columbia PST, so that saves 7%
edit: I should also do a plug for turntablerecords. Most of their vinyl is older than the 90s and I'm a big collector of music from the 90s. Thus I don't go in their too often. However they have a higher odds than Ditch Records of having random rare vinyl. I walked away with Tom Petty she's the one soundtrack for about $45. They also took a list of rare vinyl I wanted (which was really Tom Petty Wildflowers, Tool - Aenima, and Springsteen's the Rising). They called be about 6 months later when they scored of a copy of Wildflowers. That made me a pretty happy camper. I also saw stuff like a sealed copy STP's Tiny Music before it got reissued. Typing this I should probably go their more often. Ditch doesn't seem to get very much rare vinyl these days.
I have some cousins who lived in Princeton. The Princeton Record Exchange was probably the first store I went to that had second hand music when I was first getting into music. Nothing like that existed around where I lived in Maine. Very cool place!

Poor communication and no sign of my vinyl almost 2 months after I placed the order. I finally got them to give me a refund, but with zero explanation of why they weren't able to fulfill my order to begin with. Such a waste of time.
