U2 Fan Discussing Issues with New Tour featuring Nightly Set Changes
I know they have always been a business, but it just feels so calculated at this point. Announcing that the tour is going to be made up of pairs of shows, each distinctly different from the other, makes it almost essential for a fan to attend two consecutive nights, for fear of effectively missing half of the show. Thats like going to Zooropa and being told you need to come back the following night to see the MacPhisto section. Yes, each night of the tour should have its own magic, a different set list, a unique song that maybe wasnt played on any other date, but broadly speaking, you shouldnt miss out on a whole part of the show because you couldnt afford to make it to two consecutive shows.
I went to 360 at Wembley and then went with different people to the show in Cardiff. Later on, I went to Pittsburgh. But I never felt concerned that I would regret not going to the 2nd Wembley night, because I would miss something completely different.
Hopefully I will start to feel differently about it nearer the time, but at the moment Im strangely indifferent and thats sad.

I saw U2 in philly and nj last tour.....nearly the same exact set list and actions by the band each night.
After two and a half hours on line today I got two tix to the 7/22 show. They are behind the stage but I m not sure where the stage is going to be. Some of those tickets were terribly expensive!!!I'll ride the wave where it takes me......0 -
Lol lol lol! Oh the madness!
) I love PJ!
Oh please let it rain today.
Those that can be trusted can change their mind.0 -
Wow, that poster definitely chose the worst way to look at it.0
-
I posted in the thread on the U2 site about how we get a different set EVERY night and wouldn't have it any other way. Maybe PJ has influenced U2 a bit?0
-
On the 360 tour I believe there were 110 total shows and 61 different songs over the 2 year tour.0

I had issue with $312 for Upper level tickets. Nearly $700 for my wife and I to go? Thank god for Blu Ray. I know U2 doesn't tour too often, but damn. At $162 I would have bought, but not that price for those seats.Bridge Benefit 1994, San Francisco 1995, San Diego 1995 1 & 2, Missoula 1998, Los Angeles 2000, San Diego 2000, Eddie Vedder/Beck 2/26/2002, Santa Barbara 2003, Irvine 2003, San Diego 2003, Vancouver 2005, Gorge 2005, San Diego 2006, Los Angeles 2006 1 & 2, Santa Barbara 2006, Eddie Vedder 4/10/08, Eddie Vedder 4/12/08, Eddie Vedder 4/15/08, 7/12/2008, SF 8/28/09, LA 9/30/09, LA 10/1/09, LA 10/06/09, LA 10/07/09, San Diego 10/09/09, Eddie Vedder 7/6/2011, Eddie Vedder 7/8/2011, PJ20 9/3/2011, PJ20 9/4/2011, Vancouver 9/25/2011, San Diego 11/21/13, LA 11/24/13, Ohana 9/25/21, Ohana 9/26/21, Ohana 10/1/21, EV 2/17/22, LA Forum 5/6/22, LA Forum 5/7/22, EV 10/1/22, EV 9/30/230

Everything seems so forced with U2. One of the many reasons I could never get into them (mainly I just don't like most of their music...at all).0
-
I actually know what he means and I agree with him. I've never seen U2 live nor do I have any desire to but from what I've seen on tv and youtube, they put on shows with elaborate lights and douchey bullshit like zooropa and all that crap from the 90's. With a band like Pearl Jam, it's literally just a slightly different setlist. With U2 it will be different theatrics. I think he has a point.Post edited by october22 on0

I was able to buy a single in the 200 level for $118 at 4:30 yesterday after much retrying. No pairs so I am going solo.PJammer4life said:I had issue with $312 for Upper level tickets. I never go to live gigs many in a row, I just go for that one night, so I'm happy seeing U2 again in September. But tickets were expensive this time around, and I didn't even buy the most expensive ones, I could never afford it. Wonder why they are so costly?Kool Kat Club 1992, Moderna museet 1992, Globen 2012, Friends arena 20140

say what you want about u2, they put on one hell of a show. They are definitely the complete opposite of pearl jam when it comes to playing live but that doesn't mean they don't kick some serious ass. I think one of the reasons they play the same set every night is because their fan base is so damn large that it's difficult to go to multiple shows (along with a really steep ticket price, although ga is only $86).I'll ride the wave where it takes me......0
-
bands that play the same set each night is due to visuals that go along with the show, ie specific lighting, videos, backdrops etc, just look at AC/DC, Iron Maiden, The Who, Kiss, Aerosmith, the concerts are more of a production, than band playing music. U2 are great live, they put on a great show.0
-
Yeah I had two tickets section 213 msg total after fees $ 624 , no way can I justify paying that for any band at all ... It's a shame really ..jesus greets me looks just like me ....0
-
I'm pretty sure Live Nation paid U2 something like $100 million (prior to the 360 tour) for all tour rights for a specific number of years (10, I think). If that's the case, the crazy ticket prices and push for most lower bowl seats around the middle of the arena to only be available as VIP packages, makes sense as Live Nation is trying to make as much money as possible on each and every seat in the arena.
Thankfully, Pearl Jam takes a very different approach for pricing of tickets and distribution of the best tickets!0 -
Unless they view these ticket prices as socialism and they have a robin hood complex where they are going to use it all for the poor, then these prices are ridiculous and they are excluding a lot of their fan base from the opportunity to see them.josevolution said:Yeah I had two tickets section 213 msg total after fees $ 624 , no way can I justify paying that for any band at all ... Although, all the shows have sold out for the most part it sounds like so perhaps the prices aren't that bad.0 -
Exactly the fans are paying so if the demand is there they have no reason to charge lower prices but it really is a disgrace ....Take a look at stub hub @-)bootlegger10 said:

I know I was born and I know that I'll die. The in between is mine.0 -
I wouldn't be surprised if the Songs of Experience album is released when the Apple iWatch is released in the Spring.
If that happens, both albums would be out before the tour starts and night 1 shows could be more focused on the innocence LP and night 2 more focused on the Experience LP.

really good point. There's nothing wrong with this approach but I like the PJ technique better: here we are, take it or leave it.
