you know, you laugh. but the knob/dial thing actually no longer has numbers on it. So all these instructions like "preheat to 350, cook for 2 hours then crank heat to 425 and cook for one hour" have me thinking I'm gonna have to kinda guess about where the numbers are supposed to be.

hey, you are talking to the guy who forgot to defrost his turkey and tried to thaw it in the bathtub.
I fucking kid you not. =))

How does one cook Thanksgiving dinner?

    I have a turkey.
    Sweet potato.
    a box of stove top
A frozen roll of pork sausage
    marshmallows
a can of something called Jellied Cranberry Sauce because apparently "you can't have turkey without" some red goop in a can!
    crescent rolls
and String Beans, because Goddamnit I'm making SOMETHING for me to eat.

    haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalp.

Some red goop in a can...that's their new slogan. =))

I've got half a dozen eggs that "expired" Nov 24. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalp. I don't have paprika. I guess I have no options other than egg salad then right?

Is there a cooking thread? I need one.

I particularly like the toys. No lonely turkey here! That duck is looking a little worried, though.

What size is your turkey Ident?

Sounds like a loaded question :D

    Here's a (non-loaded) question - what's considered Thanksgiving music? Is there such a thing?

Alice's Restaurant. My local radio station plays it every year on Thanksgiving.

I ate there, years and years ago.

(actually, I might be thinking of Moonshadows)

Still, I always thought Arlo was cool - not to mention that name!

:)) Good luck, Ident! Don't burn the house down! And of course everything is better with picshures!
    :D

I have never made a turkey, ate my first ever Thanksgiving dinner last year. I might attempt to make one next year. I just don't really like the traditional side dishes. Everything is so sweet. Except for the cranberry sauce. That shit is delish!

If you don't like sweet you'll have to come to our house (not that we have American Thanksgiving). We have spicy yams - yam chunks that are coated in a mixture of olive oil, jalapenos, fresh minced garlic and ginger, curry powder and cumin in a bit of orange juice then roasted.

That sound delicious! Well, even if I have to work tomorrow, we're probably going over to a relative's house for an hour or so, and I won't be picky :D

But when it's my turn to make a turkey... I'll decide on the sides! >:) ;;)

Have a good day tomorrow, everyone!

Leeze I'm with you - thanksgiving dinners are gross. The only items I enjoy are the mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, and whatever vegetable. I was going to make arroz con gandules but it feels stupid and wasteful to make a whole other dish. I made extra salmon and rice tonight so I'll probably eat that tomorrow.

Yummo, salmon and rice are good too! I am generally more a savoury tooth, so you can chase me with anything sweet in a main course. For dessert, yes, but not too much. Cav's aunt makes a mean Key Lime Pie. I hope there will be some tomorrow...

    haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalp.

Thaw turkey as much as possible before tomorrow.
If you stuff it cook for approx 20 mins a lb otherwise 15 mins a lb at 300 degrees F. So about 3 hrs for your 12 lb'der.
If all you have is stove top then follow directions on box not hard. If you cook in a separate dish use turkey juices(these will appear about an hour into cooking turkey) to moisten, will improve flavour drastically.
Thaw pork sausage shove under skin of turkey before cooking. It will feel like you're violating the turkey a little this is a good thing.
Throw the marshmallows out unless you are making hot cocoa.
Open can of jellied cranberry sauce empty into bowl and smash until it no longer looks like it came in a can. Next year buy a bag of cranberries and make the sauce fresh, super easy and tastes a million time better. This is one of the best parts of turkey dinner do not underestimate the power of the 'red goop'.
Chop yams into 1/2" chunks toss with olive oil and some herbs and bake till fork tender.
Follow the directions on the crescent rolls - again not hard.
    Steam the beans.

Also before you panic about so many things having to go in the oven, time it so the turkey should be coming out about 45 mins to an hour before you want to eat - leave in roaster. Then shove everything else in oven (yams first).

When done shove everything in your face and let the foodgasm happen. Stop when it hurts - let food coma commence.

    Enjoy your thanksgiving
