Watched the Foo Fighters Sonic Highways episode from Austin the other night and saw several clips of SRV. Always heard of him (Pride & Joy, Texas Flood) but never really got into him. So seeing clips of him really sparked my interest. Can any fans out there recommend some other SRV songs for me to check out. Thanks

    Love Texas Flood. You might want to check out Crossfire, Lenny, Love Struck, The Sky Is Crying, and his version of Little Wing. He is one of the artists I wish I had seen live when I had a chance.

    Just go through and discover all of his music… Then go find all the videos of him performing live and get lost for awhile. PJ20 at Alpine was great for many PJ reasons, but knowing just beyond those trees is where he died was pretty insane. One of the best.

    Anything live you can find. The studio stuff doesn't quite do it in my opinion. Some of my earliest music memories are of SRV. Dad would throw on his stuff and cook up a big Sunday breakfast. Live at Montruex is really good. Double disc - the performance after he got clean is a blues breakin' wrecking ball.

    Live at El Mocambo is a great, great dvd. Love the shorten version of Third Stone he does as well on that,....

    I love Live from Austin because in one performance he's junked out and he's clean in the other...the guitar playing is stellar in both but he was in his own world when he was a junkie...it's nice to see him open his eyes.....what a damn irony to get clean and then die in a helicopter crash.

    He was about the only guy that could leave Clapton speechless. He was one of the best at improvising the blues. So many great songs, so many live performances. I have a fair number of bootlegs that are good quality. If there is renewed interest in SRV, I'll post them up on a torrent.
    Don't forget to listen to Dirty Pool.

    agreed. It made the trip somewhat spiritual for me as well. In a somber, homage kind of way mixed in with PJ20 fun.

    IMO Vaughan is the best guitarist of all time, its not close, and also a pretty good vocalist. Guitar playing he is like a mix of the best elements of all the great Blues and Rock guitarists who came before him and he was as close to perfection as you can get. Nobody since has hit that level.

    Ditto ditto ditto. SRV's version of Little Wing still makes me cry almost every single time. Beautiful.

    IMO SRV is the best blues/rock guitarist 'player' ever. I'm still partial to Jimi since he basically invented the genre and so many guitarists from Clapton, Page, Beck, to SRV followed in his footsteps. No knock on SRV, but I give extra credit for creating a style.

    I remember the day he died so clearly. I was a HS sophomore and we were all heavy into classic rock. It was 1990 and hair bands ruled the radio and it SUCKED. So pre-Seattle, we were definitely a one trick pony on classic rock style. We heard on the radio on the way to school about the crash and the DJ (Jeff and Flash, WMMS Cleveland) was speculating that EC was on the same chopper since he followed SRV that night in Alpine. So all day we were very worried we lost basically the two greatest guitarists in the world in one night. When we got home, we heard EC was alive and we were relieved, as sad as that sounds. Never got to see him, but he was a master for sure.

    Interesting... but it reads like it's a radio broadcast pressed to vinyl.  I was very disappointed in the fidelity of the Carnegie Hall vinyl.
