Yngwie Malmsteen's opinion on Pearl Jam (Eddie and Mike)

  • I think it's kind of a joke to say someone with technical skills plays without emotion. I believe Yngwie certainly plays with emotion. As far as him being technically amazing, I think there are plenty of guys who could show more chops then Yngwie. He was the first to come out of rock playing like that, but many have followed that are better. John Petrucci and Steve Vai could play anything Yngwie plays and more.

I agree with your comment about emotion. I was just going to respond that Yngwie probably loves his guitar just as much as Mike, but they just have different styles. I took classical guitar lessons for a couple semesters and my instructor clearly loved playing classical music on guitar and I loved how technical the playing was. He usually had a grin on his face when playing (clearly still loved playing and played with emotion).
  • I agree with both of you, I know he loved playing his guitar, I just dont think 2000 notes per second connects with the people as much as Mikes soulful ones do. Theres obviously emotion there i just think its not the same as mikes if that makes sense. To me its like Mike is makin love to his wife where as yngwie is a porn star lol. He might be better at it and he definitely loves it but mikes makin a connection. that was weird

Oh and Id definitely have to disagree classical music shouldn't be played on a guitar. Expand your horizons. You'd be surprised at some of the rock songs you probably love that were inspired by classical music

    hey,
yeah I have tried to listen to classical music
it's not for me. I go for emotion over math.
I appreciate the talent of the musicians and the composers but it lacks the feeling for me.
Like Neil Young's producer David Briggs said, "In Rock n Roll- the more you think, the more you stink". That is what I am getting at with my comments about all these guitar wankers/virtuosos.

    But hey man,
    Love the Avatar.
