Thought I'd open up pandora's box. Thoughts on Adrian Peterson's actions?

first reaction to the ap news was utter disappointment, like "no, not you, adrian." it's tough. he wasn't a perfect dude, but it was easy to respect him, his abilities, and his dedication. the pictures were tough to see. i got spanked by belts and wooden spoons as a kid (i'd never heard of a "switch" until yesterday), but i certainly can't recall ever having markings like his boy did. even if you think it is ok to discipline your kid in that manner, it's tough to justify that what ap did wasn't excessive, and ap himself in his messages to the mother essentially admitted as much.

i feel let down, certainly. probably similar to the feeling i had when news of kirby puckett's abuse towards his wife surfaced (and later, other allegations). no matter the positives kirby and ap have accomplished, everything is tarnished, and will forever have the specter of these incidents looming over them.
  • Agreed.
  • I mean, it is as easy to say the cliche "He didn't know any better" because "that's how he was raised"?

Not an excuse or trying to justify things, but maybe a reason.

    Saddens me.

It may be a short term solution to misbehaving, but for the child it breeds anger, fear and resentment in the long run. It only makes things worse at a young age.

Maybe he will pursue a career playing for the cowboys as he recently mentioned. Texas and the south seem to be more accepting of this type of punishment.

  • I don't think he's going anywhere
  • Diddy and I are going to Memphis!!! Crazy spur of the moment decision last night! We might be in the bleeders but we are in the building! I feel like I'm going to recoop the concert I lost a few years ago. At least in a small way.
