I can't believe this. I mean I believe it now you say it but I would never have thought 10C members would do this!Dead Man Walking said:This is another example of a few ruining it for many. There are people who would buy show prints, slightly damage them at the show, buy a new one from the 10c, them try and send their damaged show one back for a second "mint" copy. I agree with this policy because as the merchant, you don't know who's telling the truth (majority) and who's taking you for a ride (minority). Giving the buyers money back is the only fair way they can protect themselves.
Shitty your print got ruined. It happened to me once in 2006. I was given the option of returning it. I ended up plakmounting it and despite it being plastered to a purse of wood now, all the creases are pressed out of it and it hangs nicely in my unfinished basement.0 -
That's what I thought too. I totally get that some posters in the mystery sale likely had dings/a bit of damage, that's not the problem. Receiving a tube that was clearly crushed in shipping and basically receiving a response that said tough shit, deal with it or pay to ship it back. For the $20+ we pay for shipping, I expect more.ldent42 said:I thought the shipper was responsible for filing claims for damage with the carrier?

Ten Club (or any shipper) shouldn't be responsible for damage during shipping, unless it was poorly packed, which we all know isn't the case with posters. It's the carrier's problem. File a claim through them...Post edited by lotsalemon onMansfield 06.28.2008 | Boston 05.17.2010 | Boston 06.19.2011 EV solo | Wrigley Field 07.19.2013 | Worcester 10.15.2013 | Worcester 10.16.2013 | Hartford 10.25.2013

Oh man, I hadn't considered this either, but yes I would expect that could well be tried. That sucks if anyone does do that.bazzer said:

I saw afew guys get slightly damaged posters at shows this tour, and the merch sellers were excellent at exchanging even if an hour had passed between purchase and return.0 -
unfortunately posters do get damaged in transit. A good friend recently had a tube delivered in Cali by FedEx that had clearly been run over a few times by a truck. It only contained about $1300 worth of prints :(
The package wasn't insured,
im not sure why im telling this story, but I do know he didn't hold the seller responsible ....or ask for replacements....... guess the same could apply here0 -
10 club e-mailed me a further explanation, this is what it said:
We do not have replacement copies.
In the 'terms of use' section of our website, under 'returns/shipping' policy, "can I return a poster?", it is stated "Posters are sold As-Is. No refunds. No returns. "
link: http://pearljam.com/helpfaq?faq=1063
We do this for various reasons. One of those is that, in most cases, we do not have enough stock to replace posters.
However, even if a poster is not sold out, we want to give as many different members as possible a chance to buy each poster. If we offered replacements, a customer could, if they were dishonest, receive a poster that was not "mint" in their estimation, then crease, tear or otherwise damage a poster, take a photo and send it to us stating it was damaged. This could cause an endless cycle of the same poster being replaced. What this does is takes the opportunity for other Pearl Jam fans to buy the poster in question.
We assume the majority of our customers are honest, sincere Pearl Jam fans. However, there are some people who are trying to take advantage of and maximize profit in the secondary market. We cannot be a wholesale supplier for the secondary poster market.
In most cases posters that are creased or otherwise damaged can be mounted in such a way that the damage is not visible.
In some cases when a replacement poster was torn to pieces at our request, a replacement has been offered. This is no longer the case, as one such torn-to-pieces poster was sold on the secondary market, thus circumventing the intention of tearing the poster to pieces in the first place.
Despite our stringent policy, I have offered a refund.
Please let me know if you'd like to take advantage of this offer.
Thanks

Honestly its a really fair offer from 10c. If I were you id take the refund and look for one on ebay or other places.0

I'm going to keep it. My only chance to keep a print at a good price. I will eventually frame it so the creases should be barely noticeable.cp3iverson said:Honestly its a really fair offer from 10c. If I were you id take the refund and look for one on ebay or other places.

I'm sure it's one thing if the poster is damaged in shipping but from what it sounds like, this was damaged to begin with and they shipped it anyway. I guess now I understand why they say "as is," which really did used to be a scratch and dent thing. It never would have even occurred to me that someone would buy a poster at the show and damage it on purpose to get a more mint one through the ten club sale. Wow.
Shipping a damaged poster back is actually pretty cheap, but it comes down to do you really want your $42 or a cool rare PJ poster that will probably frame out the damaged part. You could always put matting around the design because there is a LOT of white space on that poster around the design with nothing in the edges etc. Make it look even more like a stained glass window or something.
I received a Santa Barbara poster back in 03 or 04 that was damaged and they gave me a refund when I sent it back. In hindsight I wish I'd kept it because even damaged it probably ended up being worth a lot more than the $25 or whatever it was at the time.
Also one more cool thing about poster shipments--one time they put someone else's order in with mine or put my address on two tubes or something, I don't remember. I got the poster I ordered then got someone else's poster too (like the guy's name was on the order slip with it and everything it just got mailed to me). I emailed them and they said if I would pay to send it back they would send me a bootleg of my choice. So I took them up on it and picked Uniondale... which was of course no longer being sold but I'd heard a lot about it.ABQ 93, Las Cruces 95, ABQ 98, Bridge School 10/30/99, Lubbock 00, ABQ 00, Denver 03, State College 03, San Diego 03, Vegas 03, PHX 03, D.C. 03, Camden 7/5/03, NYC 7/8/03 + 7/9/03, Vegas 06, San Francisco 7/15/06 + 7/16/06 + 7/18/06, Kansas City 10, [EV:ABQ 11/6/12], Chicago 13, PHX 13, Denver 14--PJ24!, Telluride 16, Chicago 8/20/16, Chicago 8/18/18, Phoenix 22, Denver 22, Vegas 5/16/24

Not necessarily. I think their point is that if someone is looking for a perfectly mint poster, you could have someone ask for 2/3/4 replacements before they're happy.jamburger said:"This could cause an endless cycle of the same poster being replaced."
Only if they continuously try to sell the damaged poster.
And I realize most people won't do that, but some will. I work with DVDs for my job and I have people who will return something 2-3 times before the outer box has a small smudge on it. It happens, it's really frustrating, and those few people that do it ruin for everyone else.0 -

Love the explanation, and perfectly illustrates that there is often much more to the story, and there are actually reasons behind the policies.
I wish I could say it was hard to believe what some of you are saying about the tricks people try to pull. I bet 10c has seen it all by now.

The "torn-to-pieces" poster parts were just on eBay here recently with the individual stating that they were offering them up as something to use for crafting. I know that my husband and I shook our heads at that and 10c saw it, too. It was up for $1, but it's still not what you are supposed to do. I've read in a thread on here somewhere about the member stating that they had done that, so they openly admitted it here. Sad. I don't think that they meant harm by it, but just a poor decision that now changes how posters are replaced.dmaradona10 said:10 club e-mailed me a further explanation, this is what it said:
